AF Vandevorst S/S 06 Paris

PARIS, oktober 3, 2005 – Before Filip Arickx and An Vandevorst's show began, a young woman took to the stage of the Elysée Montmartre with an LED screen strapped around her neck that read: "No flash photography, PLEASE." The odd request likely had something to do with the elaborate stage setup—models stood behind a curtain facing a mirror angled toward the audience that displayed only their reflections before they descended a set of steps and made a winding path around the runway—but one can't be sure. What was vaguer still was the connection that arrangement had to their spring collection. This Belgian team might be better off skipping the complicated staging and focusing on their clothes, which were often good, especially a dress of frothy white and gold lace that peeked out from beneath an iridescent raincoat. For the most part, the looks were monochrome: A slouchy, off-one-shoulder jersey tee topped a pair of eighties leggings and a leather cummerbund, all in black; a tiered lace, below-the-knee backless vest was attached by hook and eye to a canvas skirt, both in white; and a fitted khaki blazer was worn with chiffon pants just a shade lighter and gathered at the knee. Despite the distraction of faded text printed on everything from cuffed cotton shorts to a leather bomber, their tailoring looked as strong as ever. Coats, many fastened with oversize plastic buttons, were among the show's standouts.

Those big flat plastic buttons I love. Especially when clipped on a jacket Filip and An always manage to fasten their coats + jackets with something no one has ever done before - to my knowledge that is. There were some really good pieces in this show, but also rather bad stuff which I'm not used to from A & F.

However, the styling might not be the best, but there are some cracking individual pieces..

I like that white zip-up from post 3#...

the first pic is my fav from there...long, off the shoulder knit with black leggings...very nice...

dislike the footwear on a whole...

Definitely some great pieces..the jackets,the coat and skirts. The mood and styling is a bit off-putting though.

mmmm very nice.....
i like most of this very much.....

some of these tops fall beautifully....
and the colors are superb....they all compliment eachother wonderfully....

it has some sort of 'industrial' feel....'warehouse' but chic, somehow....
i dont know what words i'm looking for....but there's a sort of mechanical feel to it, without losing the beauty and the sensitivity....
whatever it is, i'm appreciating it...

i love the proportions....
the very slim leggings and full, draped tops....
the way they wrap and fall.....

and those boots with the straps falling from them....!.. ...

well, it's a bit similar to last season...regarding the leggings for instance...but it seems to be their signature style..personally I really like it...it's very tasteful...and just oozes sex appeal...
