Ahmad "AJ" Abualrub

Happy late birthday, Aj!
It's such a shame that he's skipping Milan again though ;(

I really don't understand how MDC comes up with their rankings. Makes no sense and there's no consistency whatsoever.

too bad he's no longer at Models.com Top 50

is he retiring or just taking a break?

I don't think so. Sometimes MDC did rank with subjectivity, but most of the time they ranked the models according to their current achivements in campaigns, covers, editorials and runway. Campaigns and covers are very important. Though I don't understand why they put Calvin Klein and Estee Lauder on such a high pedestal, is it because they are American brands and MDC is an American website?

Of course it's ok for me when it comes to AJ. :blush: AJ ranked No.5 two years ago due to his Calvin Klein Collection S/S 09 campaign, and it was his debut on MDC ranking! (Dmitriy Tanner's dubut is No.6)

AJ hasn't had any major(blue chip) campaign since long time ago, and he doesn't have any campaign at all this season (F/W 2011). That's why he's no longer in the ranking. :cry:

Here's a screenshot captured by me in the April of 2009, it was his peak:

good analysis, zephons....I've noticed he's less visible over the last year or so...thx

@Zephons

Thanks for responding to my [indirect] inquiry :) But I stand by my conclusion that MDC's rankings are very inconsistent. Going by your explanation (campaigns, editorials, covers), which I accept by the way, it doesn't make sense to me how models like Jon K. (6+ campaigns this season) and even Leebo Freeman (steady stream of editorial work) aren't ranked. Furthermore, Andrej Pejic has had more covers this year than any other male model yet he's only 18th on MDC. No consistency imho.

^ I said 'most of the time' MDC ranked objectively. The website has started the ranking since 1999 or even earlier. Clients choose MDC for reference since the website has established some authorities over the decade.

Campaigns always come first, and Jon do deserve to be in the ranking. As far as I am concerned, Andrej and Leebo do not have any major campaign this season. There are thousands of fashion magzines, and only those listed as the criteria for ranking will be considered by MDC. As for male models, covers and editorials are not so important as to female models since few of them can be on the 4 Vogues and other major magazines.

Remember, MDC ranked according to its own rules.

Visibility. That's what it's all about.

Though there are hundreds of male models booked for very good jobs everyday, only a choice group achieves that elusive ideal, booking those maximum visibility campaigns and editorials, shot by the world's most influential photographers.

Visibility is what the smart model converts into dollars and longevity, driving up his catalogue rates and converting his status from fad to fixture.

Tune into MODELS.com Top 50 listing and get the definitive fix on who those glamarous faces riding those giant billboards in ads for the star-making fashion giants (Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY, Gucci, Versace, Hugo Boss, Prada etc.), as well as gracing the pages of fashion bibles like Arena Homme Plus, L'Uomo Vogue,Vogues Hommes, V, Details, Dazed & Confused, The Face, GQ.
