Alaïa W/S 2026 by Steven Meisel

Hmmm…NO
This kind of cold and slick photography and composition is not working for Alaia.

I really don’t like it.

Should have stayed with the warm and inviting vibe of Lebon.

This only emphasis the unreachable and unrealistic nature of his creations for the brand.

i don’t understand why people drag Meisel for doing his signature studio shoots. This is his visual language and the brand wants that signature.

Rinse and repeat and yet no one can do as good as he does.
not dragging him nr 1

if i drag someone its the creative director and art director as they propose a story to tell about the brand and collection and ask the photographer to interpret it /build on it.

its one thing Zara ask Meisel to be pure Meisel, another is a brand fairly new creative director rebuilding the brand image and story with a storyless ad campaign in that new branding chapter that looks like just another Zara Meisel ad.

discussing meisel work is another conversation because being polished and technical excellence does not absolve you from being stuck or repetitive without evolution in your style /work or just work that is empty of a relevant point of view like a shinny koons sculpture can be.

Absolutely not worth ditching Ezra Petronio for Fabien Baron just to get Meisel hoping he doesn't bring them to Versace.

His campaigns have all been pretty flawless tbh. I am not sure why the change in Art Direction. The video does look like something Baron + Meisel have done before. But I will wait until the images are out to fully judge, because the moments in color look great!

The pieces look desirable + perfectly showcased and the girls look absolutely gorgeous. I love that the makeup and feel, is more glamorous than in the show.

Mind you, Meisel's been evolving and building on his style and work for nearly 50 years. At this point in time, that's 46 years of consistent work without a single season's break. I think the man has paid his dues. And he is to this day the only photographer with consistently incredible studio photography, he knows what he's doing and that's why he stays booked, regardless of how repetitive it may seem. This might just be a continuation of his great studio work, but I have no doubts that it will be a flawless one indeed.

And I think it's very important to note the general state of the world and fashion as it is. I think the soul he brings to even his most commercial work nowadays is precisely the life he breathes into all of his studio works, which has long been his specialty. You can't deny that he has a very particular sense of style, lighting and pose when it comes to studio. And that works.
