This is outstanding. For the life of me, I will never understand why she isn't heavily used in print.

^That's a cute editorial, thanks for posting! She looks fantastic, I really like that haircolor on her actually.

It’s no secret that we have an affinity towards, well, fellow Canadians (we’re kind of patriotic, okay?). And, weirdly enough, it’s not all that rare that we run into them, from Leslie Fremar and Quentin Jones to Heather Marks and Joanna Hillman (as front row neighbors at CHANEL, no less). What can we say, guys? Yeah, undercover Canadians know a thing or two about getting dressed in the mornings. But that’s not to say we weren’t still excited showing up at the door of Alana Zimmer’s East Village apartment—we mean, in the past few years she’s represented us everywhere from the pages of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar to the runways of Christopher Kane and Dolce & Gabbana—she’s also a regular campaign model for heavy hitters like Givenchy and MAC, so, like NBD or anything!

But let’s be real, we know and love Zimmer best when she’s sans stylist, lights and wind machine. As far as post-runway show street style is concerned, Zimmer is pretty much the calm, cool and collected ying to BFF Hanne Gaby Odiele’s outrageous yang. Think off-duty-model, but with personality—so instead of that ubiquitous black biker jacket, she’s in a Dries overcoat and wearing brogues with her cropped trousers rather than the standard (but still cool!) Isabel Marant Dicker boots with skinny jeans. Kind of our androgynous dream girl, in other words.

And as you can see, her closet did not disappoint. In fact, we were ready to move right in and claim it as our own (then again, in a game of who wore it better, we won’t flatter ourselves into thinking we can compete with a 5’11” model). This girl has ineffably cool dressing on lock (there’s something in the water north of the border, we swear): a leather Margiela maxi skirt (a particularly special sample sale score), Céline shoes in every variety, a prodigious collection of Derek Lam (let’s just say she’s a favorite of his) and enough denim to make even the most jeans-devoted among us green, uh, blue(?) with envy (please head this way for Zimmer’s expert advice on just how to wear the fabric head to toe—you know, the Canadian way). Oh, and once Zimmer had done her thing in front of Jake’s lens (she is a pro, after all), she took us shopping at her favorite secret boutique—and now we’re totally on our way to being street style bait too, you guys.

"I can't live without:
1. Blazers
2. Jojoba Oil
3. Apples
4. Céline shoes
5. Nature"

"I recently did a shoot in Kenya with giraffes. I was having my picture taken by Liz Collins while feeding a giraffe treats and getting smooched by it. I honestly wanted to cry realizing that this was my job and I would have paid for that experience. I’m one lucky chick!"

"I always wash my face with Cetaphil cleanser; it’s so gentle and never irritates my skin. I use witch hazel as a toner to follow. I am completely obsessed with Jojoba Oil and always use a bit to moisturize with after. I then normally use Ling’s Oxygen & Multi Vitamin cream or, in the summer, I put on La Mer’s sunscreen. I also really love to mix my own masks at home with honey or avocado. If I’m travelling I always pack an SKII mask for the road."

"My go-to [fragrance] is always Chloé. Even when I smell it on someone else it’s my favorite scent. Right now I’m also into the Rodin Olio Lusso perfume that my friend Sheila got me for my birthday."

"Do whatever makes you happy and makes you feel confident. It’s pretty generic but it’s such great advice. When you’re around people who love what they do and love life, I find it magnetic. I want to spend time with them."
"For up and coming models, I think it’s important to finish high school. Because let’s face it, you’ll never go back if you don’t. Otherwise, please be healthy! Your body is your temple, or so my mother always tells me."

"I have a blazer that I bought in a vintage store from a designer named Ilie Wacs. I wanted to find more of his pieces so I looked him up online and it turns out that he is a Holocaust survivor who came to New York and became a tailor. He was well known for his coats, and I must say this blazer is my absolute favorite. It’s boxy but chic and goes with everything. It’s totally falling apart, but it’s the best cut blazer I’ve ever had and I love that there’s a story behind it. Other than that I absolutely adore jumpsuits of all kinds."

"[Moving from a small town to New York City] was a huge transition that I initially tried to avoid. For the first year that I started working I was living out of a suitcase. I basically had no home. Then after my second show season I went back home to my parent’s house and realized I no longer had much of a life there. My job was in New York and so were a lot of my friends. I think I found an apartment that week and I’ve been here ever since."

"I do enjoy cooking. I recently took a French cooking course at the Institute of Culinary Education, which I loved. I learned to make all sorts of reductions, sauces, different cuts of meat, etc. I live in the East Village at the moment, so I’m a bit spoiled by [the many] cheap and delicious restaurants. A lot of the time when I end up buying groceries, I’ll book a last minute travel job and they all end up going to waste. So I eat out a lot more often than I should. I’m definitely more of a natural baker than chef though. My favorite cake to bake is a vegan carrot cake."

"I’ve yet to discover the precise location [that’s the perfect place to live]. But I’m lucky that I get to travel all the time. I do know that at some point I’d like to live somewhere that I could be fairly self sustainable though. That’s the one thing that I miss a lot while living in New York. When I was a kid my parents always had fresh fruit and vegetables right in our backyard. I have my garden, which I’m happy to have, but otherwise you’re pretty dependent on what’s being brought into New York. I think we all realized that fact during Hurricane Sandy. It was like the apocalypse."

"Somehow, I’ve never fallen. I’ve had a lot of shoe dramas though. For a model, I have pretty tiny feet and I am almost always wearing shoes that are too big for me. I’ve become a professional shoe doctor. I’m great at finding ways to make a size 41 fit me as a 38."

"I try to buy something small for my apartment when I travel to any new destination. I have a conch shell from St. Lucia, cushions from Turkey, blankets from Kenya, cookbooks from Barbados and antique Shakespeare plays from England. I love to fill my apartment with things that remind me of my travels. Someday when I’m old and grey, it will remind me of all the amazing adventures I’ve had!"

"Bioderma Crealine is the absolute best makeup remover for after a show. I always carry it in my bag. Christophe Robin hair masks help save my hair during fashion week too. Otherwise, I usually take vitamin C and Zinc to boost my immune system when I’m low on sleep. I try to drink more water and less coffee, which isn’t always easy."

"I try to switch up my workouts so that I don’t get bored with them. I do Pilates, hot yoga and spin classes. At the moment, I’m mainly working out with a trainer though. We do boot camp-type training, which I never thought I’d be into. I never thought I’d be able to do so many pushups and pull-ups in my life. It’s such an awesome feeling to feel stronger and that you’ve accomplished something so challenging. I’m addicted!"

"[In Canada, I miss] my family, the healthcare and the abundance of space and nature."
