Read our exclusive interview where she spills her hair secrets (That color right) and her favorite experiences in Milan and New York!
Hey Alex! How are doing today?
Alex: I’m doing great! Had a very busy day of castings and getting my hair cut! Happy to be inside though, it’s freezing out!
So we know you are in Milan right now. How are you enjoying your time there?
Alex: I love it here in Milan. I was actually here in October and was supposed to stay until December 15th but I unfortunately broke my foot so I left late November. I excitedly jumped at the chance of coming back to Milan again, this time until March 4th! I already know my way around the city so there was absolutely nothing to be worried about when I arrived!
Since models are always traveling, we can imagine you miss home a little sometimes! How do you combat being homesick?
Alex: I miss home A LOT. I recently bought my mom a webcam as one of her gifts for her birthday. Skype has easily become loved at the Madar residence. It’s crazy how one little device can change so much. Seeing your family and being able to talk to them, even though you are in an entirely different country is so incredible. Also, knowing that they support me and believe in me makes it worth being away from home. It’s exciting to come home with more photographs and being more experienced as a model.
You’ve appeared in Seventeen Magazine and Elle Girl Russia as well as walking for Christian Siriano at New York Fashion Week. Do you prefer runway or editorial work?
Alex: I absolutely love both! It’s really hard to choose… I’d have to say Editorial. Even though it’s an extremely close call. I love being able to play different characters on set and learning new things in the process of being photographed. This career in its entirety is about learning and growing. Also, I love seeing the finished product of a days worth of work! Runway is amazing as well. The adrenaline rush you get right before you step onto the runway is such a drive. Presenting such talented designers and having tons of flashing cameras at the end of the runway is so exhilarating. And then.. it’s over in a minute. It’s crazy but that’s why it’s so much fun!
We’ve been following your career since you were on MDC! Now let’s talk more about you!

You receive a random shoe box in the mail? What shoes are inside?
Alex: Anything Alexander Wang or Miu Miu. I love Wang’s edginess and Miu Miu’s couture side.
You are invited to your favorite actor’s movie premier to go as his date. Who’s the lucky guy?
Alex: James Franco!
You have a spontaneous date tonight and have no time to go out shopping. What do you wear?
Alex: My favorite little black dress by Theysken’s Theory that I got last summer while in New York along with my favorite black heels from Top Shop.
Better yet, when your date shows up, what is he wearing?
Alex: I think it’s quite funny when a guy wears a suite on quite casual occasions. Just simple. I love the way British guys dress! Casual, but with effort.
Where do you personally see yourself in 5 years?
Alex: In five years I’d like to see myself living the life I always dreamt! Happy, healthy and successful. Being happy and successful comes with modeling, which I would love to continue doing. Also, having my own apartment in New York City would be a great accomplishment!
You receive $1,000 to spend at your favorite store. Where do you go and what do you buy?
Alex: Anthropologie! They have everything from clothing, accessories, to home decor and books. Sadly, I’d probably buy so many tea cups and dainty necklaces. I’m a bit obsessed. And maybe a dress and a few room decor pieces.
You wake up to breakfast in bed. What’s on your plate?
Alex: Blueberry pancakes. Ah-maazing!
You are receive a whole movie theater to yourself to see any movie with one friend. What movie and who gets to go?
Alex: Paranormal Activity 4 and with my best friend Hailee. We would probably need the entire theater to ourselves because we would probably embarrass ourselves with our outbursts and panicky screams. It’s become a tradition that we see every Paranormal movie together. It gets us every time.
Name one of your favorite experiences in Milan or New York thus far.
Alex: My favorite experience in Milan was dancing in front of Duomo with my friend Andrea. We were recording a little video for our friends back home to see Milan but in a fun way. So, we wore muscle tanks that were bright blue and said Italy on it. Accompanied with a mega-bright red lip. I stepped out of my comfort zone a lot in the making of that video. Dancing awkwardly in front of and through people was so much fun though! It’s something I will never forget.
As for New York, I was actually recognized in the NYU bookstore when I was just trying to kill time between castings. I was looking at shirts and this NYU student came up to me and asked “Are you Alexandra Madar?” and my eyes grew big because I was in such shock. She had seen me on Models.com and on Fashion Spot and was studying to become a casting director. Oddly enough the casting director which she idolized, I had met a few hours before.
Beauty time! The next three questions relate to your current beauty/health regimen.
Name one beauty product you use daily.
Alex: I use my Laura Mercier concealer every day! I have very thin skin under my eyes so I tend to have purple under-eyes, even when I’m not tired.
Your hair! We love it! How do you keep it under control since it is very long and curly?
Alex: I love using deep conditioners once a week since my hair is very thick and can get dry. I rarely ever use heat on my hair which helps so much in maintaining healthy looking curls! DevaCurls is an amazing brand for curly hair as well! It keeps your hair shiny and light while maintaining a beautiful, soft, bouncy curl.
Are there any beauty rituals you take part in to keep your skin looking fresh? (Facials face masks, steaming, etc.)
Alex: I actually had my first facial this month! I think I’m going to do it more often. It was so relaxing and made my skin extremely fresh and vibrant. At home, I love using all natural face masks. They have specific ones you can get that have certain aromas for stress, anxiety, sleep, and others. It’s a great way to treat yourself while at home!
