People have commented that her new season and the last are a bit 'high street' and looking a bit 'cheap', what do you guys think of this dress:

(vogue.co.uk)

I'm thinking of getting it for a wedding, but I'm not sure about paying lots of $$ for it. I love the yellow and the folds on the top (reminds me of derek lam) but not sure how much wear I'd get out of it. Also, do you think this yellow is going to look out-dated real quick? It's been popular for a while now.

I'm also not that crazy about AC now that her stuff is just practically everywhere (at least here in Aus)... I'm looking for something a bit more 'original'. This dress is pretty but maybe not very special? What does everyone think???

I like the colour and it looks nice and delicate but i personally don't like it that much (just simply not my taste). I think if you like it you can find a cheaper alternative that's similar. Alice McCall first caught my eye when a girl at uni was wearing one of her dresses - she wore it in a really casual funky way even though it was very delicate-looking. So in terms of 'originality' - it's up to how you pull it off i think.

In terms of quality, I always hear the worst things about her dresses. Bits coming loose or undone without being worn (from just being on the floor) and department stores like David Jones (i think it is) getting lots of people returning their purchases because they're falling apart. I've never really been interested in her clothing so I have no real experience personally- all this is just what i've heard.

But for a wedding it's very appropriate imo.

interesting justlooking, ive heard soooo much about the quality of alice mccal stuff
ive only really got into fashion the last few years when her stuff is everywhere in aust so have never purchased anything
imho i find it alittle brassy and generally not my thing

justlooking / superem: Thanks for your comments... I think the fact that I've been looking for a dress to attend a wedding for so long and have found nothing as approprite as this one makes me want to get it even though I'm not loving it. People I've asked likes it but I don't trust their fashion sense as much as you guys here! And you're right, AC looks cooler when it is 'funked' up for a lack of a better word.

I went back to DJ to try it on again and found that the silk on the front is already pulling a bit. that pretty much made the decision for me -- not worth the $490 (about $400US).
