Androgyny In Fashion And Models

just discovered this thread looking for ysl woman in tuxedo shot-- this is fantastic!!!

Where is the queen of beautiful androgony......Tilda Swinton?? I would love to see some pictures from her MODELING days.

Androgyny

Androgyny: an aesthetic?
Is there hope for the Ziggy-Stardust-as-a-streetkid look?

Discuss amongst yourselves...

Oh, I loooovvee androgyny. An androgynous man to me is very attractive. Make-up, skirts, boots, jewelry, etc. LOVE. Overly masculine men I can not stand. Hairy, smelly, gross clothes, huge *** muscles. Yuck.

Haha, and this is the only type of fashion I know anything about so I have to say it.... VISUAL KEI!!! Androgyny galore!! Many of my male friends dress visualy and androgynous, and remain hetero. It's a shame though, they get called names sometimes... But yes, androgyny is somewhat underground right now, certainly not popular at all. But any VK fan would tell you that a man in a skirt and b*tch boots = F***ING SEXY.

to put things straight, androgyny is not the same as transvestism Kirai..

on the trend front, since we are already going through a more or less 'feminine' phase, androgyny is due to arrive sooner or later.. for boys i think it's already there.. since quite some years now, so maybe -JUST maybe- menswear will eventually 'switch' to a more 'masculine' direction..

But isn't transvestism just an extreme form of androgyny?

no, not at all.. transvestism is almost the opposite to androgyny, its 'dressing up' by using kitch elements of one's 'opposite' sex.. this is not the case with androgyny which is far more refined and less 'kitchy' as in choice of gender 'coding' .

lets keep the discussion on topic discussing androgyny as an fashion/social 'trend' ;)

I'm working the female side of androgyny pretty hard at the moment. I kind of over-cut my hair, so I have a boy's haircut on a girl's head, so I decided what the heck, I will roll with it. I have a couple of pair of men's pants--one pair of tuxedo pants, and some heavily pocketed cargo-styles, and I find that these with slim turtleneck tops or jersey sweaters is my favorite new look. I've got some very 1970s corduroy and tweed blazers (not the new-fangled shrunken kind, but the regular kind, which I like to wear over skinny jeans or slim-fit corduroy pants.

I'm really digging on this boyish-girl look. I always have thought that androgynous girls were cute as could be, and I actually feel cute, which is pretty much a first in my life.

ayli, i think this look must look real cool on you.. nice seeing you around and a very happy new year

Although i'm all up for a more androgynous look for men. 99.99% of guys are always going to find the more feminine side of themselves far too frightening to ever express through fashion.
I think it's a gift to have the diversity of seperate male and female styles in fashion. However blurring the lines between the two (if done properly) can only bring on good things.

Oh, I see. Thanks for the link. Well, androgyny and trasvestism is in VK, then. :D

Would this be considered more androgynous? (pic)

I would like to see more unisex skirts. *nod nod*

Yeah, I think that would be considered androgyny...
I like androgynous haircuts on guys and men-style clothing on women... I wouldn't want my guy in a unisex skirt...but it does sound like a fun trend...*

I refuse to let this thread die!..
In my opinion it belongs in Trendspotting though.. because this might be more of a trend.. I enjoy sporting this sort of look from time to time.

i think androgyny is the inexplicable ability to have a strong sense of your gender and sexuality but break the barrier between common perceptions of gender. It is always hot, i think.I know this lesbian that is really androgynous naturally, so she can attract anyone from the straight guy, girl, gay guy, girl.
That kind of power is what fashion strives to achieve
