Androgyny In Fashion And Models

yeah i was kinda thinking that sexiness or sensuality might have more to do with it but that is so subjective. but there is a clear difference to me between androgyny and drag. like liya almost looks androgynous here, but she is totally not. maybe i'm over-analyzing.
No, you're right. I think that androgyny actually goes in the opposite direction of drag. Drap seems to expand upon the idea of what it means to be feminine, with false eyelashes, over-the-top makeup and the rest. Androgyny means taking all of that away and actually simplifing. At least that's my perception anyhow. More sensual than sexual.

yeah drag totally reinscribes and exaggerates definitions femininity (did i spell that right) while androgyny subverts the idea of what is masculine and feminine. That's why to me anna nicole smith looks like she's wearing drag because she exaggerates the ideal beauty image to the point of caricature. Whereas many of the pix above play with the idea of what is feminine and masculine in ways that allow humans the freedom to explore gender roles and redefine them. thanks purple for indulging me. ;)

 Totally alright, we're within the topic... Lil' Kim has a similar "drag" image.

^^
oh definitely! Especially in that video where she's manufacturing herself as a Barbie Doll ( the queen of female drag is Barbie  ). But there's drag in the other direction too. The author colette was totally sensual as a woman but occasionally shook things up by dressing as a man.

I think that drag is the fetishisizing of whatever characteristic that define masculine and femininity. I've always had a think for androgyny, but I'm the opposite of faust. I love my women to look clearly women, but I think it's great when guys look sorta feminine. I think it's just my bias about female beauty (the female body is far more appealing and interesting to me than a mans).

I somehow have always found that it's slightly easier for women dressing as male. Not over the top, but are so many more successful women as men throughout history. One man that I think did manage to look more feminine while never looking like he was cross-dressing was Erte, or Romain de Tirtoff. I think that he had a lot of elegance to him... Then again, I also really admire the man! ;)

so are you more into femininity regardless of the biological sex of the person? I love femininity in women but I love it when women can also express masculinity in really graceful and elegant ways. When i see a feminine man and then realize it's not a woman i feel duped. But it's cool if it's not the over the top drag. Like the Karl Lindman pics are much more interesting to look at than the drag queens in The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert or something. I think it's because of the whole subverting the definitions of masculinty and femininity thing rather than exaggerating them that's appealing to me.
