Animal Collective

strawberry jam

I just learnt the new album will be released in September :woot:

Initial work for Strawberry Jam started in September 2005 as Animal Collective prepared to tour Europe for the release of the band’s 2005 album, Feels. The process immediately became a very intense and emotional one and they all agreed on a desire to preserve the rawness of the songs that was happening during the initial writing sessions. Animal Collective was very attached to these songs in a live setting and to preserve the live stage energy was a mission.
Though the melodies and lyrics for Strawberry Jam were written by Panda Bear and Avey Tare in various places such as Paris, New York, Lisbon and Baltimore, there was also three intense full-band writing sessions with Geologist and Deacon. These production sessions occurred in both Lisbon and in NYC. So, while the songs might seem to come from all over the map emotionally, it was important to match that geographical variation sonically.
Strawberry Jam was recorded in January of this year at The Wavelab in Tucson, Arizona with The Wizard Scott Colburn. The band drove 30 minutes each way, everyday, to and from their rented house. There was much Tecate drinking, barbecues, Javelina sightings and other desert oddities that might have influenced this record… like the day the desert was covered in glistening ice. The album was completed and mixed with the gracious help of Nicholas Vernhes at The Rare Book Room in Brooklyn, NY. dominorecordco.com

^ I am really excited for this. I am going to see them on 6/1 :woot:

I have also really been into Noah Lennox's solo project Panda Bear..."Person Pitch" is one of best album I've heard this year. Y'all should check it if you havent yet :flower:

^I got a bootleg with some of the new tracks the other day, they sound great.. I'm really looking forward to the studio version of this.

I saw them tonight for the first time. very disappointing. an unrecognisable spaced out sound for an hour. shoegaze but without the commitment. and then they spoke for the first time - saying that 'the singer' had lost his voice with the flu, and that they'd now played all that they could play without his singing. Then a 3 Person Pitch songs and that was it. Barely an hour long and quite long enough at that.

:cry::ninja:

the complete opposite of my experience last november--one of the best shows i've seen in a while--glad i didn't see them this time around for more money. the crowd for the show i went to was pretty good too, people were dancing, smiling, having fun. less worried about looking good more interested in having fun. goodtimes.

your experience is more what i was expecting. the crowd was pretty static and probably a bit in shock. there was nothing to dance to! unless the humming of a spaceship floats your boat..

aye i've heard of how bad they can be some sets--when they choose to go the more experimental/noise route. i'm sorry you were so disappointed--did you walk out? i probably would've...hehehe. :flower:

there was no time to! it was only an hour really, and I assumed there would be a change of direction, but it just ended...
oh well...

The album is also expected to be leaked by November -_- .
I'm kind of excited about it, I'm been a bit frustrated by the use of melodies in their last couple of records but some of the new tracks on live performances that I caught on youtube sounded quite fantastic, still far from the rawness that I used to love about them but trying to move on and appreciate them for what they are now, I think it'll be worth a shot.

I can't wait for their new album!!!

I wonder what sound they'll run with for this record?

^ Awfully jealous. Definitely one of the acts I must soon see live.
I don't understand why fans of Arcade Fire and other many-membered groups are yet to see their attraction.

Does anyone own (and want to recommend) some of the solo projects?

I love Panda Bear's solo album. I've only listened to Person Pitch but it was amazing. Take Pills is my favourite song.

I just recently discovered this guys and am finding them a bit difficult to get in to, but I'm still intrigued and not giving up just yet. I have Merriweather and Strawberry Jam. What is their best album?

My favourite is probably Sung Tongs. I've been listening to the song baby day a lot while studying.
