An interview with Anna-Maria taken from visitorline.com:
This 15-year old girl is a supermodel. Anna-Maria Urazhevskaya is the main discovery of 2006 on the world podiums, the youngest model to appear on the cover of the French Vogue.
In the first two months of her professional career she has managed to do as much as some other quite promising models can’t do in many years. Everything in her life seems to be happening at the speed of light. By the time this issue was ready Anna-Maria appeared in three different advertising campaigns in one week, becoming the face of Blumarine, Kenzo and Hermes.
Anna-Maria, who “saw” you for the first time as a future model?
Anna-Maria: It was the photographer Natalya Schastlivaya, a friend of dad’s who’s known me since my childhood. She said I should try myself as a model.
What about being so far from home and moving from country to country all the time?
Anna-Maria: Although I usually live with my parents, it’s not that hard for me to part with them for a few months. I got used to it when I was little – before I started school I often stayed with my grandparents for long periods of time. My parents have always been very busy people, they used to travel abroad often. Of course I miss my family, my home, but I’m not a mummy’s girl.
The first country you went to as a model was Japan. How did you feel there?
Anna-Maria: The first week was really hard for me, and the first day I even cried. To be quite honest, I was sorry for myself. I was completely alone on the other side of the world where I had to stay for two whole months, and this was in summer, when you want to have fun. But then my parents came and stayed with me for a week. It was then that I realized how important the support of the family is.
And how did you get on work-wise on your very first trip to Japan?
Anna-Maria: At first there were shootings – I appeared in different clothes. And my first job on the podium was a Prada fashion show.
So it was Prada right away?! How did they find you?
Anna-Maria: I went to their casting, the Japanese took photos and sent them to the Italians. Then they gave us screen-tests in make-up and with hairstyles and Prada chose me for the show. I appeared on the podium second after Sasha Pivovarova, the official face of the Prada advertising campaign.
Have you done any shows in Russia?
Anna-Maria: For Alena Akhmadullina, Nina Donis, and several other designers. I also appeared in some Russian magazines: Seventeen, Elle Girl, Cosmopolitan. But the first real cover in my career was the photo for Menu magazine, thank you very much for that.
What countries did you go to after Japan?
Anna-Maria: The Fashion Weeks in Milan, then in Paris. In Milan I took part in an exclusive Prada show where I opened and closed the show. I went on the podium three times altogether. I really liked it, although before the actual shows there were lots of rehearsals, and trying on clothes. They finished late in the evening and even after midnight, but I didn’t get tired. But you can get tired of any kind of work. But if like your job and they pay you good money for it, which is also important, you don’t really get tired.
What was the first foreign magazine you appeared on first?
Anna-Maria: That was the French Vogue, the May issue. The photos were taken by Mario Testino, I found him to be a very gentle and kind person.
I was told that the editor-in-chief of the French Vogue was enchanted with you…
Anna-Maria: Carine Roitfeld is very pleasant woman to deal with, she has Russian ancestry and even speaks Russian. I think I can call her my godmother, she really helps me to move ahead.
