ince her 1994 St. Petersburg debut as Susanna in Mozart's "Nozze di Figaro," music writers have swooned over the Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko's luminous voice and sultry looks — and frequently made note of her obsession with fashion. "The best country for shopping is America," she said. "I go to expensive department stores because nobody notices or bothers you, and to cheap stores like Marshalls and Filene's Basement to buy beautiful cashmere sweaters."

"I love colors, sparkles, anything over the top," said Ms. Netrebko, 33, who released her second album, "Sempre Libera," to raves in September. (The San Francisco Chronicle called it "dynamic and resplendent" and "an ideal portrait of her magnificent artistry.") "I also like messy style, things not going perfectly together. Somehow it suits me."
On a recent afternoon at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Ms. Netrebko dazzled in a Dolce & Gabbana velvet dress with lace collar and brooch ($2,995, 212-249-4100), Louis Vuitton sheared belette coat ($10,600, 866-884-8866), a vintage fox fur Escada bag and sequined sandals by Prada ($635, 888-977-1900). "I'd wear this to the opera," the soprano said of her ensemble. "I go often to see the performances of my colleagues. Or to some big, beautiful party," she added.
Before ducking out the stage door, Ms. Netrebko showed off two more recent clothing purchases — a red blouse and an argyle sweater vest from Express. Her musical tastes, apparently, are equally diverse: "I love Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z," she said. "I love all the hip-hop guys." **
i just think she looks lovely...
