Carolyn Murphy—mother, surfer, and Estée Lauder spokeswoman—is the new face of Anne Klein.
“Signing someone like Carolyn with her high poise and beauty was natural,” said Eileen McMaster, vice president of corporate communications for Anne Klein. “She, for us, is somebody who appeals to our customer. She’s not only a working mom—which is important—but she illustrates what Anne started in the late 60’s: how to be fashion right but not trendy.” McMaster added that Murphy—who in the past has been associated with such high fashion brands as Fendi, Gap, Calvin Klein, and Gucci—will also star in the company’s fall campaign.
As part of a new company initiative beginning with this campaign, Anne Klein will be introducing an archive piece each season, reinterpreted and modernized by the design team. For spring 2006, the company has chosen a $395 silk linen dress that the Sports Illustrated cover girl models in one of eight black-and-white images photographed by Patrick Demarchelier in New York City at Pier 59 Studios. For summer, designers have chosen to update a matte jersey dress.
Past campaign faces have included Helena Christensen, as well as Ann Richards, and Reba McIntyre, both of whom starred in the Significant Women campaign. The company’s most recent famous face was supermodel Bridget Hall, who represented the brand from spring 2002 to fall 2004.
The global advertising campaign is slated to appear in the March issues of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Town & Country, and Time Style & Design. It will debut in Vanity Fair in April.
