Arthur Gosse

Happy Birthday!! :magic:

Oh regarding his age, I read an interview with him in Hero #7, he said he is 22 so I guess he is 23 now. ^_^

Is there a chance you could scan or transcribe the interview if it's not too long? I haven't seen or read an interview with him yet.

Here it is! :flower:
From Hero #7
Arthur Gosse
Interview by Thibaut Wychowanok

TW: I've been told that you're studying industrial design in Brussels and that you were living in the north of France. And now I see you're in NYC.

AG: Yeah! That's a job thing. I moved yesterday to a flat in New York with some models... But you're right.
I've started my study in Valencienne in north of France and I integrated La Cambre in Brussels last year.

TW: By the way, it seems we come from the same city in the north of France: Lille.

AG: Cool! That's where my family lives. And that's where I went to school.

TW: I haven't been to Lille for ages. I guess you used to go out in the big Belgian clubs across the border like we all did?

AG: Mmm...it depends. We used to go out in the pubs you know... On Massena Street.

TW: The streets dedicated to drunk students!

AG: Yes [laughs]. But it was back in the day..

TW: How old are you?

AG: 22.

TW: Then you're too old for the pubs of Massena street...

AG: Well, it's more about having fun at home with my mates now. You know, like reunion, every time I go back.

TW: Sp are you really stopping industrial design for modelling?

AG: To be honest, being a model works quite well for me so I've made a life change and become a full time model,
I'll have time to go back to my study afterwards. It's funny – I only started industrial design because the opportunity came up there too.
My high school major classes were science, but school was not my thing. So I spend my time drawing during class and liked it so much
that I figured industrial design could be the perfect fit for me.

TW: And are you still drawing?

AG: I'm still drawing like I used to, just for the fun of doing it.

TW: Please tell me you're not drawing anything to do with fashion...

AG: Absolutely not! I don't even remember what my last drawing was. It might have been some buildings in New York.

TW: Are you ever proud of your work?

AG: Quite rarely actually. But it happens...Not with my personal doodles but I've been surprised by my work in industrial design before,
when I'm going deep in the process, trying to push the limits of it. But you shouldn't get to full of yourself.
What I really love about industrial design is that the object you're working on is constantly evolving.
In a way, the object is evolving by itself just by meeting all relevant constraints to fit with reality.

TW: What would be the product that you'd love to have invented?

AG: The most ingenious...I'd say the bicycle.

TW: I was expecting something more...edgy. Why a bicycle?

AG: Why not? It runs fast. That may sound stupid but this very simple idea. And the bonus is that it doesn't harm the environment.

TW: Well, I guess you discovered more than your appetite for bicycles at La Cambre?

AG: That I could be a model! A stylist student asked me one day if I would agree to be a part of her show.

TW: She was teasing you?

AG: Not at all. It's just that all these stylist students are desperately looking for models. And eventually, I said yes.
I was expecting, you know, a student show, but it really wasn't. It was really big, huge! And that's where I was spotted by a model agency.
It was last June if I remember well. Anyway, this guy gave me his business card but it wasn't until five or six months later that
I thought I should give it a try, and went to the agency. And so I've been modelling for just two or three months actually.

TW: And you've already opened Prada and Dior shows, you did Lanvin. Do you realise how much that means in the fashion industry?

AG: Not at all! You know, I've never been into fashion. A lot of it is very unknown to me. I just thought, 'Let's try it and see what happens!'
without having any idea of what I was getting into. Except Dior or Prada, I hardly know any of the brands!
There are so many designers that I didn't know when I first started. And that I don't know even right now [laughs].
I have some issues remembering people's names these days.

TW: You must remember someone! Someone you met and you appreciate?

AG: I like Kris Van Assche very much. I don't know why. He looks so shy and discreet in spite of his excellent reputation and success.

TW: So no celebrities?

AG: You know, most of the celebrities I would like to meet are actually dead.

TW: Now it gets interesting!
AG: Well I love playing guitar, I would have loved to meet Jimi Hendrix, even if I'm more into acoustic than electric guitar.
I started playing in a school academy, but I realised that what I liked a lot was playing tangos. But I can also play some blues, rock...I love a little bit of everything.

TW: Do you play in a band?

AG: I've got some good friends who play very well, but we play together very rarely. We just jam together, that's all.

TW: OK so let's say Jimi Hendrix is not available. Who else among the walking dead is next on your list?

AG: Well...Dali.

TW: Dali?

AG: He looked funny...

TW: I would say he looked like a lunatic!

AG: Of course! But not only is he interesting as a person for his charisma, but the precision of his art.
Otherwise, I love street art as well, graffiti.

TW: Have you ever done some?

AG: I have! But it wasn't vandalism.

TW: How could graff come without vandalism? Because 'graffiti is not a crime'?

AG: I just use spray paint for my own art! I have them at home along with a room where I can do whatever I want.
So I used to graff up the walls, trying to mimic some of my drawing, but I have no personal style as a graffiti artist.
As you can imagine, I'm not as good with spray paint as with a pencil.

TW: What kind of stuff would I see in this room?

AG: Oh god, we organised so many parties in that place – it's a big mess! Characters, caricatures...
And a lot of bull****! Coming back to music, I love the jazz guitarist Bireli Lagrene. And Jamiroquai!

TW: I though he was dead...

AG: No! There are some genuine guitar riffs in his music – I'm loving it. But I can hardly understand what he is singing to be honest.

TW: Because of his accent?

AG: No! Just because of me!

TW: Don't you speak English? I guess you are doing 'Fast English Training Courses' now that you're living in NYC?
AG: I would say 'slow' course [laughs]. [Model agent interrupting the conversation] You're late. You have to go!
Arthur: When do I have to go? The agent: NOW!!!!! [laughing].

TW: OK so let's wrap it up quickly, and anyways, I'm starving to death. Any piece of advice on what I could get?

AG: Pizza straight away bro!

TW: Any good places you could recommend?

AG: I've no idea since I cook my pizzas myself.

TW: What's you favorite?

AG: It depends what is in the fridge!

TW: Have you ever tired sweet ones with chocolate?

AG: I mixed up pasta with chocolate once...

TW: And?

AG: Well, obviously I am still alive!
