Every once in a while I google tFS to see what the web has to say about us. Today, I found this interesting article about the makings of an "it" bag that mentioned tFS and our members.

The life cycle of a statement bag

February 7, 2005: Marc Jacobs' Fall ready-to-wear collection includes the "Stam" bag, named for Canadian model Jessica Stam.

September 8, 2005: TheFashionSpot.com, an invitation-only online fashion forum, notes that "celeb bag freak" Lindsay Lohan has a Stam bag in "petrol". Eluxury.com lists it as the latest "It" bag. Online pundits consider it too heavy, too faddish, the leather too rough, and muse about how long they will need to wait for it to go on sale.

September 9, 2005: "Youngprof" on TheFashionSpot.com reports she has one and "you could definitely carry your stuff for all day in there". Harvey Nichols assistant tells shopper Stam will be "bigger than the Paddington", is frostily rebuffed.

September 13 2005: TheFashionSpot.com members now "in love with" the Stam, declare it not heavy. Lohan wears hers multiple times, Mary J Blige also seen with one. September Vogue features Karen Elson holding a Stam with a kitten in it.

Late September 2005: Petrol Stam proving elusive.September 29, 2005: Eluxury.com and Barneys.com sold out of Stams. Tearful emoticons online. Unsubstantiated reports of Kate Moss carrying a black Stam in Harper's Bazaar.

October 3, 2005: Further colours released.

October 5, 2005: Neimanmarcus.com sold out. Neiman Marcus Honolulu sends last Stam to the mainland.

October 14, 2005: Nicky Hilton carrying Stam. First signs of trouble.

October 16, 2005: First convincing fake found on internet.

October 18, 2005: Mention of problems with clasp.

November 2005: Mention of stitching unravelling.

December 2005: TheFashionSpot.com member removes photographs of herself with Stam.

June 2006: Blogger on Stylebubble.com comments, "I would be embarrassed having that bag, what a total fashion-victim bag." The New York Times runs a composite picture of women all over Manhattan carrying Stams.

November 2006: Jennifer Lopez arrives in Rome for TomKat wedding with grey Stam.

January 2007: Baglady.com declares itself "all Stammed out".

March 2007: Marc Jacobs enters rehab clinic in Arizona.

April 2007: Marc Jacobs Spring 2007 collection has about 15 versions of quilted bags with brass chain straps. Purseblog.com says, "Marc Jacobs should continue riding the Stam wave."

I think this is true, I'm quite surprised there hasn't been any more big articles out there on TFS, I think there are sooo many people that reads here and gets influenced to buy bags.

Thanks for the article!

yes, because some horrible person from ebay took my pictures and tried selling fake stams on ebay with pics of me and my bag! hahahaha! and yes, i had those tearful emoticons for a while until i put my order in...then pure bliss. and still much stam LOVE!

We definately feed off of one another here which in some ways influences us to splurge. I know I have bought a thing or two after seeing how fab it looked in photos if it is something that is classic and I can see in my wardrobe for a long time!

Thanks for posting Hip!
What an ego boost for TFS!
It's true, there are times when I have changed my mind about a fashion item once seeing it on a member - that's why I am a big fan of pictures from our members modelling their fashion purchases.
And oh yea, I have noticed quite a few times that when certain items get mentioned here, it does sell out pretty quickly :innocent:

Hmm. Thanks for the article, it is very interesting to learn about the life cycle of a bag

I love how they said this:
TheFashionSpot.com, an invitation-only online fashion forum

 It makes me feel so... special!

CONGRATS TO EVERYONE WHO WAS MENTIONED AND TFS!

Even more impressive to me is the blog connectivity to tFS. Major publications don't have anywhere near the audience and readership that online sites have these days.
