Probably because they are really mature, but yet not overmarketed like LV and not as iconic as Hermes. The brand doesn't have much exposure outside of the UK, I think. They had this whole huge gala opening store party here in NYC, but I don't think it had the desired effect.
I really like Asprey, but they are fairly unknown in the states. Oddly enough, Ive seen some of those bags on the streets in NYC, namely the steamer stripe bag, and I was like "Is that Hermes?"
That first shopper is...Heaven...
The look is very Hermes though, not different enough.
I actually prefer their small leather goods to Hermes'. Their french wallet is much more practical than the Hemes Bearne because it has a snap closure instead of the Hermes 'H' buckle. I would love one in their signature purple croc, which is way cuter than the signature Hermes orange. I think the leathers of the two companies are comparable in quality - the only difference is the status that Hermes affords here in the states .
First, they are not marketed wideworld.
Second, they do not have a distinctive character, nobody would say "oh, that is an Asprey" as it happens with other makes, like Bottega Veneta.
Third, very expensive.
Fourth, not "trendy".
