Meet the New Girl: Astrid Holler
Get to know the Aussie model who opened Alexander Wang’s show.

There are no guarantees in modeling, but the next best thing is being the girl selected to open Alexander Wang’s show. Past honorees include Vanessa Moody (Fall 2014), Anna Ewers (Spring 2014), Irina Kravchenko (Spring 2013), and Nadja Bender (Fall 2012), all of whom have gone on to have massive careers. The latest to get Wang’s blessing is Australian Astrid Holler.

“It’s a fresh start; I just really wanted to come here,” Holler told Style.com. For her, making it to New York had been a long process. After being scouted by IMG at a shopping mall when she was in her teens, Holler walked two seasons of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia before graduating school and making the jump to NYFW. Her first stop in the Big Apple? Alexander Wang. “I cast for Anita [Bitton], the casting director, and she mentioned that they’ve wanted me since I was 15!” she cheered. “After the casting, I came back for a fitting, and then I met Alexander Wang. He was really nice, and I guess they really liked me.”

Finding out she booked the opening spot at the show came as a bit of a surprise to Holler. “I saw that my photo was the first one in the row, and I thought, Maybe I’m opening the show. That’s a possibility. But when they told me, I was just like, ‘Oh, my gosh! Wow! Thank you!’” Getting into the goth mood of the show wasn’t too much of a stretch, and Holler even mastered walking in Wang’s platform creepers. (“It was pretty easy!” she deadpanned.)

So will we see her in Europe? You bet. “I’m packing my suitcase at the moment, and nothing fits!” Models’ problems…just like ours.
