I usually hate this kind of editorial where the model's black skin serves as a background for neon colored clothes but this one is not tasteless.

I actually love when it's done, because the clothes pop, and in turn it shows that race or skin color shouldn't be an issue when it comes to selling fashion to a consumer...She kills it in this editorial (and many others I've seen)

There is something I am reminded of as I continue to mature...It's never to "judge a book by its cover" and "assume nothing".

When Ataui came to meet me, I was literally blown away. Besides her lean tall height, it was also her classy, stylish attire, escorted by a lovely, young man, so humble, he seemed like her courtier. His name is Courtney and was introduced as "my husband". Wow!

How often do you hear a young woman (model) introduce her "husband"? Very nice! Ataui Deng, one more Sudanese beauty, who seemed to have captured the eye of so many, that I feel like I am just catching up to the pack. Not the usual "Bethann move". I am usually way ahead of the curve.

Before I start with all she has accomplished, let me express what a lovely young woman she is. Ataui is well mannered, clear of who she is so far and filled with appreciation and respect. She is happy to be doing what she is doing and she still has dreams to fulfill.

Her accomplishment in the fashion arena for such a short time is staggering. Born in the Sudan, recent years living in the United States, she is religious and seems to be married to her first love. And it seems like they found each other for all the right reasons. Courtney is there for her and a big support to her career.

Ok, let's speak on the career that has only begun, I cannot name all but trust me there is a lot of fashion image makers, who are supporters and see Ataui has what they like.

Designers range from Christian Dior, Hermès, Kenzo, Rick Owens, Mugler, Oscar de la Renta, Band of Outsiders, Diane Von Fustenberg, Halston, Lanvin, John Galliano, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac to name some.

Its Ataui 3rd season and already, she is at the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness. A true thoroughbred ready to run and I am proud to say "giddy-up" or with class, I say... Brava Ataui, Brava.
