Athina Onassis Roussel

you know I was very skeptical about Doda first, I used to see him around a lot at horse events in Monaco when he was with his first wive. I only saw Athina with Doda once but he was very affecionate with her, I really hope that he truly loves her and that he gives her the happiness that she deserves.

I wonder what kind of process it is for the Onassis board to decide if Athina will be the foundation prez or not, and if they already held their "vote" or if they are still discussing it, or if it's in litigation or something like that. She was 21 in January, but the decision might be a very long process, who knows.
She might still be under consideration if she is really showing a desire to learn the business. She has shown that there is hope, by changing her name and also by changing her represented country (in competitions) from France to Greece. She also renewed her Greek passport. She is training with the Avlona team, Greece's Olympic show jumping team, for China in 2008.These are good signs, but the board may still be acting against her for their own interests. They have always been working against her, I believe, just like her father. No one is really interested in Athina's best interests, except perhaps Doda. He's the only one I believe even *might* be her true ally where the money is concerned.

^ well first off she needs to learn to speak greek in order to even be consider to gain access to the trust and organizations and therefore the rest of the Onassis fortune. though most of the things she has access to already she's been selling...

from hello magazine
Athina Onassis has decided to sell the Paris home where she spent much of her childhood. In a move that many hope will draw a line under her family's tragic legacy, the 23-year-old heiress has put her mother's spectacular Avenue Foch penthouse on the market.

The £10-million apartment, where her mum Christina lived as a newlywed, is an integral part of the Onassis' family's history. Athina's legendary grandfather Aristotle, the man who built the dynasty's vast fortune, bought the 15-room residence in the Sixties when he was at the height of his financial power. With its breathtaking views of the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower, it provided the romantic setting for his meetings with opera star Maria Callas and John F Kennedy's widow Jackie.

It was also there that the shipping magnate spent his final days before being taken to the American Hospital in nearby Neuilly-sur-Seine, where he died on March 15, 1975. When Athina was born ten years later her mother, by then owner of the property, began lavishing every luxury on her little girl. A three-room suite decorated with £500,000 of gold leaf was specially installed, complete with toys including a diamond-studded rocking horse and mini Rolls Royce.

Number 88 Avenue Foch is also steeped in painful memories, however. The young Athina was lying in her bed when she heard her mother's voice for the last time. Christina called to say goodnight from a hotel room in Buenos Aires just hours before succumbing to an overdose.

Ever since she turned 18 three years ago Athina has been working hard to put her family's sad legacy behind her. Her mother's villa in St Moritz has already been sold, along with the £5-million Monet masterpiece that once hung in Avenue Foch. Now happily married to Brazilian showjumper Alvaro Alfonso de Mirando Neto, the much talked-about heiress seems determined to step back from the jetset lifestyle previous generations of the dynasty were known for.

She doent even speak greek, how could she get access to the trust and organizations? You know Onassis Foundation is not a simple "job".

Just five days ago it was reported in the UK's Daily Express that she sold 88 Avenue Foch, which was one of the most famous Onassis addresses. Aristotle spent his final hours there before being taken to the American hospital of Paris where he died. That apartment was supposedly bought by him as a place to hideout his mistress Maria Callas. Christina used the apartment much later and some of Athina's earliest memories are from there. A lot of misery haunts that place, said the Daily Express article, a possible reason Athina wanted to wash her hands of it.:(

Athina has said that she is learnig greek .

Despite what the media always said about her refusing to learn to Greek, or being discouraged from learning it, growing up...I cannot believe that she has not picked up a fairly decent communication ability in the language over the course of her whole life. With all the interactions (the greek cousins, the "greybeards," the equestrian acquaintances) I cannot believe she has had such a limited exposure to Greek as the media would have us believe. For crying out loud, she represents Greece officially now in all her show jumping competitions and she is signed up on the Greek Olympic training team. She surely talks to her Greek coaches and her Greek team members! Not to mention the interactions, however unpleasant, between her and the Onassis Foundation. Also, she was educated in Switzerland in a school that teaches according to the French BAC system and in that system, I believe, students have to learn the ancient languages Latin and Greek.

in all the articles I've read and the people I have talked to who know Athina in Monaco or Paris, non have ever said she didn't want to learn to speak Greek or that she isn't trying, she's been taking classes, she just didn't start soon enough and Greek it's one of the hardest languages to learn. the board doesn't have a problem with Athina but with her father, he was excluded from it and he has fought hard and may I say a bit dirty for that money to go to Athina in exchange the board blames him for not keeping Athina close to her greek roots. now that Athina wants to be in charge of the board, the board it's being very careful that she meets all the requirements according to greek law, you have to realize that when and if Athina gets to be in charge of the organizations she would need to carry the Onassis legacy and that's a very hard thing to do, especially when she has tried to distance herself from all that at certain times.
the people of the board or the "greybeards" as they are called do not "hate" Athina, they just feel she still has long ways to go before she can take charge of the organizations, I mean for pete's sake people, Christina, Athina's mother was the one that left them in charge so they could keep on developing these organizations...
....also I just want to say that when I was younger I saw Athina and her father quite often at riding events and he was nothing but loving and affeccionate to her and her sister, they have had some rough times and he could have always been controlling but we will never know that for sure, so STOP with all these silly rumors and taking sides when you haven't even seen these people with your own eyes

Um, actually I have been watching Athina since she was a little girl and I never took sides. In fact, I always prayed that her relationship with her father and her whole family, especially gaby and siblings, would always be great. Additionally, I know very well how much the "greybeards" resent Thierry for all of the bad (yes, selfish) choices he made.

My problem with the "greybeards" now is that they CLAIM to want what is best for Athina, when in actuality, it is their OWN INTERESTS they want to protect. Papaidimitriou says Athina is not "GReek enough" to be President of the foundation. Who is "Greek enough?" His son? Grandson? His friends?
I won't say anymore on this but please try not to judge me. I won't do it to you, I promise. We are all coming from a unique perspective. We could observe the same things but have entirely different reactions. I suppose now I "take sides" because I see a bunch of grown up old men trying taking on a 20-year-old woman in a battle to control a lotta freakin' money. Because whatever the Foundation is about, it boils down to money in the end. and power.

But returning to fashion...

Athina in 2004 wearing Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses. Personally, I gotta say "nay" to these sunglasses... and her blouse too. Actually, they may be from D&G by Dolce... I know Athina's never been known to be much of a fashion girl, if any kind of fashion girl, but I like some of her choices: the blonde highlights, for example. She wears cute tee shirts and jeans but it's so rare to see her in anything besides jodhpurs.
