Aubé Jolicoeur

With her impish stare and distinct strut, Haitian Aube Jolicoeur took no prisoners for SS18. From her Yeezy debut last year she came back full force starting with Marc Jacobs and going on to the show of all shows this season – the retrospective, supermodel heavy, Versace. From there it was smooth sailing with showings at Marni, Saint Laurent, Altuzarra, Acne, Givenchy, Giambattista Valli, and Miu Miu. Magnifique!

I think That's her shooting with Bella in Paris? It seems like the success on the runway will translate well in print too.. Get it girl! She's incredibly gorgeous.

Interview: Model Aube Jolicoeur On Beauty, Confidence and Breaking In

Aube Jolicoeur is the woman who creates opportunities where there are none, and makes opportunities continue where they could have dried out.
She was part of the fourteenth season of “Project Runway”, the fashion reality show. Things could have stopped there if this was another girl, but
this is Aube Jolicoeur we’re talking about. She went on to snatch the attention of fashion magazine staple

Kreyolicious: Tell us about yourself.
Aube Jolicoeur: Well, I was born in the countryside of Haiti in the small but beautiful village of Jacmel, surrounded by waterfalls and mountains. I grew up on the farm, growing crops and raising animals. I attended an all girls’
Catholic school until I was nine years old, at which time my father sent me to the USA.

Kreyolicious:
How did you get your start in modeling?
Aube Jolicoeur: I first got into modeling when I lived in Kentucky during my senior year of high school. I remember driving to Cincinnati, Ohio
every weekend because it was the only place I could actually experience things remotely close to modeling. There weren’t any modeling scouts in
Kentucky, but everybody always told me I should model.
My first real modelling experience didn’t come until I moved to NYC in late 2013. I accidentally left a shoe with someone and went to pick it up at
this warehouse in New York City. When I got there, I was met by a designer by the name of Loris Diran who thought I was there to see him. I told him I was only there for one shoe. He was having a New York Fashion Week show in just a few hours and his models were stuck at another show. Loris immediately asked to see my walk, then he took me to the show location for hair and makeup. At the time, I was wearing a headscarf and under my headscarf was my hair in twists. I wasn’t looking great (to say I was looking a hot mess would be generous), but as soon as they took out my hair into a fro and did my makeup, I felt like a goddess had been born. Walking his show with two looks and being the only black girl on that runway felt unreal. That was my first introduction to modeling in the New York fashion industry. After that, I gained a lot of
love for modeling.

Kreyolicious:
When do you feel the most beautiful?
Aube Jolicoeur: When I’m fresh out of the shower. I don’t know why but my face just glows.

Kreyolicious:
Are you friends with other models in the industry?
Aube Jolicoeur: Oh yes! I have a few girls that I adore very much in the industry. The industry, as if it wasn’t hard enough, can sometimes be a competitive environment. As much as I wish all models could stick together, especially all models of color, that’s not the case. I’ve been fortunate to meet several genuinely nice girls who continue to care and support me. I really appreciate these friends.

Kreyolicious: What advice would you give to those who want to break in?
Aube Jolicoeur: Set goals, work hard, be patient, and try to avoid unrealistic expectations for yourself. Don’t ever give up but at the same time don’t focus too much if you haven’t made it yet. You have to be okay with yourself not making it, just yet. It’s not giving up, it’s being okay if you don’t become this huge star. When I wanted it so badly, it wasn’t working out for me. Finally it happened for me when I finally let go. Not everyone will be a star, if it’s meant to be, it will!! You just have to wait for your time, I believe everyone has their season to bloom. I think of life like this, life a flower. Don’t look at other models who have been and get depressed because you haven’t made it yourself. This model you see is blossoming because it’s her season. If it’s not yours yet, just don’t ever get discourage. In the meantime, focus on yourself. Having great skin and staying fit plays a major role in a model’s success in the fashion industry. Once your time does come, you have to be ready.

Meet The Model Behind Our January Fashion Spread: Aube Jolicoeur
Watch out! This model is going places.
You may recognise the model from our January style opener – New York-based Aube Jolicoeur. This 24-year-old model has an enviable resume with a whole host of recognisable names to it – she’s walked three Yeezy Shows and took part in season 14 of Project Runway, where she was lucky enough to work with the legendary Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum.

Aube grew up between Haiti and Kentucky before moving to New York City to follow her dream of becoming a model after college. Within the first week of settling into NYC, Aube was spotted by a Russian photographer who contracted her for her first photo shoot. One month and nine magazine spreads later, she found herself published as the cover model for Fisti Rue magazine. Her first official debut on the runway was for Loris Diran soon after. In the ensuing months, her career took off as she landed a modeling contract with RED model management and various modelling jobs for John Paul Ataker, Mansur Gavriel, Refinery29 and much more. More recently, Aube’s talent on the runway has led her to work with designers such as Xuly Bët and has earned her recognition from Page Six of the New York Times and online features by Esquire, Vogue, and Vogue Italia.

Off the runway, Aube is an emerging actress, with leading roles in ‘Afrimericans’ (2016 TV series) and ‘The Arrangement’ (2017 Pre-production movie). Beyond New York City, Aube has a contract in our native Cape Town with TOPCO MODELS.

Next Questions — Aube Jolicoeur

NEW YORK — “Hold up, this is the end of the world, this can’t be my life.” What began in disbelief for Aube Jolicoeur has rapidly coalesced into unshakeable conviction. Quaint as it sounds a mere two months later, those early days were something of a shock for the Haitian beauty. Aube once wore extensions in her hair, but never really received much in the way of interest as a model. Aube’s nascent career took a dramatic turn of fortune when she decided to cut her hair and wear it naturally. The resulting interest was nearly immediate. She booked the Marc Jacobs Spring 2018 runway show in September, which would be her first major show of many throughout the season. Bottega Veneta would later come, followed by Versace, Saint Laurent, Miu Miu, and others. Aube has been steady shooting ever since the season wrapped back in October and can look forward to bright future in an all new world.

Aube was born the port town of Jacmel, Haiti. At the age of nine her father sent her to the United States where she spent much of her adolescence in the state of Kentucky. Three years ago she moved to New York, which she now considers home. Aube carries with her a strong sense of responsibility for her family back in Haiti, especially since her father passed away and that she is the oldest. That her career is taking off at this moment comes not only as a personal triumph, but also one she hopes can be a beacon for others. “The way my life is going right now, I don’t want it to go away,” says Aube. “The whole Haitian community depends on me...hopefully I can open doors for other Haitian models.” No question Aube will walk through plenty of doors and inspire even more to join her.
