Our exclusive interview with one of the rising star in the model industry right now, Austria Ulloa.
We talked with Austria Ulloa, one of the new faces of the past seasons, who’s ready to hit the fashion world by storm. And here on Vogue.it she tells us how.
Your modeling debut for Miu Miu during the Pre-Fall 2016 show in Paris. But you were discovered years ago, in 2008, when you were just 15-year-old in the Dominican Republic. How much your life has changed since then?
No doubt that my life has changed a lot, I’ve traveled to places that I could have never imagine, I have worked with people that I can only look up to and I feel that I have grown as a model and in all aspects of my life, its not easy but I wont let myself quit and I always give the best attitude and try to learn how to improve each day as a human being.
What are your childhood memories from Santo Domingo?
I have wonderful memories of my childhood, it was very beautiful, I have a very lovely and big family, the best memories were those of my birthdays, I enjoyed them because they would always give me a different hairstyle, bought me a new dress, and a big cake,it was like a makeover and I could celebrate with my friends from school even thought it was during the summer vacation, I loved playing with them. To this day birthdays are my favorite thing to celebrate even if it isn’t mine.
You are one of the Top Newcomers of the past seasons. What are the highlights of your career in 2016?
Like you mentioned on the first question, it was a big accomplishment and surprise to get to model for Miu Miu last year and from then on things went much better, It really put me out there and after that I got to model for Calvin klein it was something that I always dreamed of.I also got to be in one of Azzedine Alaia’s shows he is just genius. Dolce and Gabbana it was so surreal, this is one of the very few brands that I actually knew of before I became a model. I got so many more great shows/jobs later on for that and of course its an honor to be one of the Top Newcomers of the past seasons! Im really thankful!
What’s the best modeling memories so far for you?
When I did my first fashion show in New York Fashion week it was actually my first show ever, Philosophy by Alberta Ferretti, back then I didn’t know much about the modeling industry , nor did I understand the importance of having an exclusive but I was so nervous and so excited at the same time it was a wonderful experience.
Who’s your style icon?
My style is relax, chic and casual. I spice it up depending on the occasion haha. I really like Liya Kebede‘s style she is always looking amazing and you can tell she is really comfortable. She is just effortless. I also admire her as a women, I love that she works so hard to help others specially the people from her Country.
How do you get ready for the fashion weeks?
Before the fashion weeks I try to relax as much as possible as you would say “the calm before the storm”, I also go to the gym and try to keep a balanced diet, drink a lot of water as usual and take care of my skin.
What’s your beauty routine?
I wash my face first thing in the morning and put moisturizer on. If I’m working I wash my face right after Im done with work, I drink lots of water and work out a 3-4 times a week. Other days I can do some stretching to relax my muscles.
In the era of the ‘Insta-Girl’ what is your relationship with social-networks?
I love instagram it definitely puts you out there, is a way in which people can follow your work and give you their support, and is also a way in which you connect with your followers, they get to see a more personal side of your life. You can give so many ways to use it, talk about a current situation that it is important to you, spread the word about a cause that is dear to your heart or just use it to post your photos from work since it is a huge part of the fashion industry this days.
If you weren’t modeling, what would you do?
Before I started modeling I wanted to be an architect, I love to create and I imagine myself building the ideas in my head. This is one of my other passions aside from modeling.
Lastly, what’s your biggest dream? And where do you see yourself in 10 years?
My biggest dream is to be able to give back to people, Im so lucky to have the opportunity to do this job and I would love to help others. I would eventually want to be involved with foundations or even create one of my own. We are all in this world together the best we can do is help each other out. Where do I see myself in 10 years, doing philanthropic work and hopefully still modeling hehe.
