Austrian Designer Ute Ploier

The very first coat posted is awesome! It looks cut nicely. Other than that, it just looks odd. I do not think I would be able to wear it well enough to look good. Maybe it is the bright colors in the first set that threw me off

i didn't know that austrian designers are known beyond austria's borders. i mean, i don't even know ute ploier, and i am from austria.

Anna,that jacket is Ute Ploier?! That's really interesting...looks like its been moth--eaten.

Yeah,I agree with you about the trashy aspect. Maybe not in that raw, deconstructionist sensibility-as with that jacket-but definitely the way they throw things on in mixed up ways and the oversized proportions. I like Ute very much. Much more refined than perhaps her predecessors. The newer Austrians that are arising are all actually much more refined than say Wendy & Jim or Fabrics Interseason. Quirky and experimental immensely but it's easier to appreciate...if you can understand that.

But one can only than Raf Simons for that,I would expect. Introducing a certain sublimeness.

That cocoon coat in the last set,I would wear instantly.

yes, i see what you mean. though i must add that this trashiness is even intriguing to me...up to a certain point...as something that i admire because it is so far from me. i think it's not a dirty, but a "clear trashiness", if that makes any sense...

what did you want to say about raf simons? that he is responsible for that sublimeness?

Well,to be perfectly frank,that bit was indeed,totally inappropriate. It's one thing to be critical of one's work but to compare a designer's talent at such a senseless level,is absurd.

It is quite fascinating. I know what you men. That trashiness is indeed different from what we sometimes deem as trash which is dirty,as you say. I think this style is a bit more militant,I think. Clean and modern....almost brings to mind things like Kraftwerk and this sort of slick electro look from the 80's. Only it's slightly out of proportion.

What I meant by Raf is that he's been teaching at the Applied Arts School in Vienna for a few years. And these newer designer's I think have a different feeling because of his approach to design,than those before he started teaching there. Because if you look at say,Hartmann Nordenholz or Claudia Rosa Lukas....and an Ute Ploier...it's a very different design aesthetic. Much leaner and tailored looking. But perhaps it's just me?
