Badgley Mischka S/S 2021 New York

With Carolina and Oscar no longer active, and the CDs of those houses taking different directions, the field should be wide open for Badgley & Mischka to take their place. People are so obsessed about the golden age of American fashion, these two could easily recapture that. And yet we get a catalogue collection that appears to have been lifted from a motley crew of designers, namely Pierpaolo and Valli.

The patterned looks and the dress with tassels is absolutely hideous.

Wasn't this a location for The Age of Innocence?

That's the only intriguing thing about this very uninspired lookbook, that blue at the beginning is just hideous. I'm seriously starting to think NY designers are using discounted textiles to try and widen their profit margin, only explanation for prints like the ones chosen here.

All these designers seem to be designing for Instagram influencers and Vloggers plus the people that follow them. They love these massive proportions. Its a beautiful collection apart from a few pieces but seems familiar. I guess after the Covid effect they are thinking more in terms of sales and making money than art.
