Ballet flats

it looks like not very many people are buying the expensive lanvin ebay flats. good. a $200 mark up is crazy! the shoes are fantastic, but no way am i going to shell out $200.00 more- they are all already crazy spendy. I wonder how many times they will be listed before the price falls?

Barneys got the Lanvin flats in last week but I think the leather and patent ones are all sold out. They still have green, purple and black satin, which are gorgeous but I don't think they wear very well. They're for dressy occasions but not for everyday wear. I was lucky enough to score the black leather and the chocolate patent but I had been on the waiting list since May. I got thin rubber soles put on them to protect them. I am in love and never want to wear anything else!

KJS0611 or to anyone else out there, where do you get rubber soles from? I have 2 pairs of foldable flats (similar to the Nine west and Sue London ones) which are really comfortable..cos they feel like i'm wearing slippers at home. Unfortunately..they're REALLY flat..there isn't really a hard sole so i'm afraid they're gonna die soon...even though i've only worn them for a season. Plus, it gets really annoying cos I can't walk on gravel or any rough surfaces or i'll feel the gritty rocks on the ground.

Anyone know where I can get rubber soles? Is it a whole sole you stick on ..or some have suggested to me that i place rubber soles at the heel part and ball of my foot only. I suppose i'm supposed to go to a shoemaker right?

Any help would be appreciated!

Is that ridiculous? i've never spent so much on shoes before...or flats rather(well..except for a pair of patent MbMJ heels and BCBG wedges..but at least there was leather/more complex designs)

wonderin if i should keep em or return them

Hrmmm..i dunno princess...I hav gold nova check flats..that are kinda shimmery..but quite understated kind of glitter. I know the novacheck is considered 'chavish' but i'm into plaid right now...and no one does plaid like burberry does. I like how the novacheck is a 'classic plaid' (even though the shoes prob won't last a long time). i also don't think i can pull off plaid clothing...the skirts seem too school girlish (and i'm over that uniform stage..i hope i don't have to wear one again) and plaid tops just don't look good on me..so i thought a pair of plaid shoes would do the trick.

maybe i'll go look for a pic later..but i think you get the idea..just a novacheck flat basically

i guess my concern is also if it looks too 'chavish'..i know many TFS members aren't quite fond of the novacheck. It's not such a big deal..esp here in Toronto...but my purpose is not to 'show off my label'..but simply because i want sth classic and elegant. I like my flats..but i don't want to look like i'm trying too hard.

when did the ballet flat trend become major?
i realise they've been around for ages (Hepburn etc) but who/which designer made it just another part of the wardrobe? I also hope it lasts a long time. I can't imagine it not...

are they the little tiny flat metallic ones? from holts? i'm guessing yes maybe?

i saw these on nordstrom.com in the summer, so i went to burberry to check them out (my nordstrom doesn't stock burberry in the salon), but i was told they were exclusive to department stores, so i forgot about them. a week later i was in ottawa visiting a friend, and we went to holts like we always do, and sure enough they were there. it was a complete joke how flimsy and crappy this shoe was! i was so happy i didn't order it online because they looked awful in person, and you could tell they had no support whatsoever. way too much money for the quality (the display pair had threads coming loose and just looked ratty) and lack of comfort.

there are tons of metallic flats around...and much better prices.

I got them done at the shoe maker. Make sure they're the rally thin ones. It was actually quite expensive-- I think $30 or $35-- but definitely worth it to protect the soles, which are so delicate. I got the whole entire sole covered, natural for the brown pair and black for the black pair.

I don't think there are any Steve Madden stores in Europe, but according to his website, they do ship internationally...but S&H is $29.95 and you still have to pay duties on your order.

gsquared - yes go to a shoe repair and say you want 'zipsoles' or 'vibram'. it is a thin layer of hard as nails rubber that goes over the entire sole (for flats - if heels it will just go on the front part of the sole). it is glued on by the shoe repair place - not something you do.
this will protect the delicate soles, prevent you from slipping and make the shoes 'not so flat'. it costs me $28, but i think i get a deal b/c i bring in so many shoes - a range of $30-35 seems right.
where do u live - i might be able to direct u to someone good.

mercer - yes! that is good - it is not right for her to mark them up that much - i can see $50-100, but 200! come on!
stores should be on to this as well - and only allow one color/size - and not 1 person putting there name down at EVERY store for 1 or 2 of each size.

thanks siren..you are absolutely right. I saw them online as well and fell for them but never saw them here. then i was shopping at holts for a gift and saw those flats and impulsively just snatched them up w/o much thought at the time. there's just sth about 'exclusive' and 'limited edition' that catches me but after looking at them at home...i just felt uneasy and wasn't sure. considering how flimsy it is i'm gonna return them and get sth else. do you have any recommendations?

mona and KJS0611 thanks for your help! I'm actually located uptown in the markham-rh area in toronto..but i go to school downtown. however...i'm prob gonna return my shoes so i won't need to go to a shoemaker anymore...but it's always good to know..just in case i need one in the future.
