This feels like costume design for a retro space Dynasty series reboot helmed by Terry Gilliam.

This collection feels kinda awkward. I appreciate how surprising it is in the context of the Balmain universe, but there's something uncomfortable and heavy-handed about those proportions and looks, almost as if they had been designed as costumes. There are, however, some promising pieces and I really hope they'd go there next season instead of mining the archives without any critical perspective.

I feel like I know he has it in him to not make bad stuff lol. I mean some of his old good stuff was "bad" but it was supposed to be garish. Some of this is just bad bad.

I like that his aiming for something cleaner (which I’ve been waiting patiently to happen, after many seasons of orgiastic excess) but the execution leaves a lot to be desired, some looks are just messy thanks to the poor finishes, ending up looking like the clearance rack of Saks ca.1984.

His take on the new look is wonderful though, after years MGC’s monastic and chaste Dior, it’s wonderful to see a return to the flamboyance of the house founder…even if it’s for another house!
