Balmain Haute Couture F/W 2020.21 Paris | the Fashion Spot

Balmain Haute Couture F/W 2020.21 Paris

Some vile YSL "inspired" 80s ball gowns, Olivier´s greatest hits (aka heavy and stiff embroidered dresses); and some random 80s Chanel-esque basic garments to finish this nightmare.

Feels more like an 80s riot than a fashion show.

The Black collection is RTW + Archives Balmain pieces from Mr Balmain, the ODLR era and from it predecessor. It also has a selection of Olivier’s most iconic designs.

One thing is sure, his iconic clothes have a Couture quality.

That being said, it’s shady to not include Decarnin’s era.

I didn´t know the first dresses were from the archives! I thought it was Olivier again...but there are a couple of them which are very YSL (nº5 and nº12).

And I agree with you, Decarnin put Balmain back in the map. He deserves respect.

I don't understand why vogue is covering this as a FW2020 haute couture presentation. Like its just Balmain archival haute couture mixed with Olivier's RTW on a boat lol. He isn't even recognized by the FHC

As a filler editorial in Vogue Paris, it would be nice. The photography is better than the clothes.

Technically, he is showing Couture in the FW2020 season.
He wanted to celebrate Balmain’s heritage but I wonder if it means he will produce or allow those dresses to be on the Redcarpet.

I hope the future of Balmain means more flou and less 80´s.

Didn't I see these clothes somewhere else before?? I literally thought I opened an old thread by mistake.......

My goodness, I didn't even notice these until now. How disrespectful. Someone, please start a petition on behalf of all of us to never invite Balmain to show couture again.

Anyways, I sent this Jasmine Masters video to a friend of mine via Instagram the minute the collection went live on Vogue, and find it just as fitting to post here. Really just sums it all up.

Skintight minidresses embellished with pearls and shoulder pads? Groundbreaking.

OK are they serious?? It's haute couture LMAO!! So disgraceful

I wonder if this isn’t the first time those pieces are out of the archives. And then I wonder if they were damaged during the fittings...Because let’s be honest, everything was shown on a boat. I can only imagine the frenzy between the atelier, the whole operation and the models, and the clothes, and the performers! It’s a lot for a boat.

It happens. Those are archives pieces. So they are fragile but I’m sure it was fixed after the show.

You are releasing a look book for crying out loud, you have the opportunity to edit the flaws in post production. The level of disrespect.
