An instagirl's tacky aunt passed away and she was left with her wardrobe as her sole inheritance. Before selling it for nickles at a marché aux puces she convinces her friends to do a photoshoot, the clothes itch and have a weird smell but at least they gained some likes.

If that's not fantasy then I don't know what is!

Everything just seems so crass. Of course the embellished looks are crass too and that much is almost expected considering it was created by the Juvederm poster boy. But it's just so tone deaf to throw this many clothes at people. How do you justify the number of dyes, sequins, detailing....the resources that went into making this collection? I mean, I know not every single look will go into the retail but the mere fact that you're giving people this many options? Guess he's not on board with the sustainability movement in fashion. Doubt whether they'll make a decent profit on this anyway.

Admittedly it's one of his 'lighter' collections, and that is not a word I would ever use in the same sentence as Olivier Rousteing.

Hmmmm.

When people go shopping again, are they going to want clothes that say "Look at me, b*tch!"

I don't know, but then again, I'm not a Balmain-boy in any capacity.

And spare me with that "People need joy & happiness in their lives!" crap.

^^^ But wait… All the mediocre tackiness of Pyer Moss//LaQuan Smith/Christopher John Rogers are being hyped to the high heavens currently while Olivier has always proudly owned tacky to the hilt. And he’s a way better photographer than all these bland lessers that are shooting for the coves of Vogue.

Unless you are Miuccia, Alber, Junya, Marc or Rei, you shouldn’t touch polka dots.

I see some nice pieces but as usual, it’s too much.
The irony is that we know Olivier can do things in a more subtle way but I don’t know why he keeps going for that 80’s nightmare.

One thing is that the construction of his clothes is really great.

Disgusting. I have nothing against designing tacky collections as along as it's done in a clever/funny way. Olivier's attempts always end up looking like costumes for clowns. It's actually sad how bad he is nowadays. The bandeau dresses and jeans must sell really well.

It doesn’t really spark my interest. I am trying to see where Olivier was coming from, but I really am not feeling it. There is nothing memorable about this collection. Then again, many collections have been very underwhelming lately.

I am a Balmain customer and I am not complaining... this collection looks tacky and fun but yeh I see what @jeanclaude and @Benn98 is calling for. In current times he should do a tighter and more edited collection.

Somehow I wish he would go back to the sleekness of his 2012 to 2015 collections, bring back the Balmain × Aurelia Bidermann ‘Le Pierre’ satchel and do a collection around it. And btw the new logo sucks I very much prefer the old serif one.

It's almost annoying to say this but I think this being resort, he's being quite strategic and go all out tacky and fun. It's excessive and it's a lot. Some works and lot others do not. But it looks like he knows what to sell and put it all out while keeping main collection more conceptual.

I'm going to surely be in the TFS minority that thinks this isn't bad for Balmain.

This collection is for the Balmain customer and people who aspire to be. It's naive to think that the entire fashion industry and customers will not want more. As soon as the pandemic is over, they will producing large collections and excess again in the name of "optimism and a return to better days".

It would be nice if they hired a better shoe and accessories designer but maybe it's better that clothes are at the forefront of Balmain. I assume that is what is actually selling.
