Balmain S/S 2020 Paris

There's one or two looks that are right at the edge of being good and then everything got so cheap looking, so fast.
Sometimes 'too much' is a good thing and sometimes 'too much' is 'too much'.

The problem with Olivier is that he can't edit. He over thinks, over designs and the look becomes too much. These collection is so unbalanced. He has good idea but it seems like his personality, ego or whatever it is took over and then he just keeps piling more stuff, adding more strips of fabric or cutting more edges. At the beginning he was able to find a balance between sharp and strong separates or dresses. Now everything looks try-hard and unreasonable. Even the colors are so harsh.

I want to like Balmain each season but this is by far his worst collection. There's so much going on and the proportions are just...ugh...
I feel sorry for the models.

I agree that the more simple and body thight looks are the best.
with the rest, especially all his geometrical shapes and his boxy blazers look so heavy handed and off on the body.

For me this collection is a little better compared to his previous collections. I expected worse, there are some nice pieces.

Maybe he wants to show that he is multi dimensional, but this is certainly not the way to do it, the themes are not even coherent to each other.
Imagine seeing these clothes in the same boutique.

Either ways, commercially viable or not, some of the dresses are not even pleasing to the eye aesthetically.

A master class in how and what not to design. It's exhausting to go through all that unoriginality and mess of colors. Scrolling it fast actually made me nauseous.

This all is looking horrible. Nightmare..
I liked his collections few years ago but this is a mess...imo

I have to say I absolutely love it. i love him though.

the last couple of shows were such disappointments but this is back to the old way, amazing music, that beautiful location, great. yes it is too long though.

Off topic but I genuinely appreciate that everyone can have such conflicting opinions on fashion week shows. It makes me see different things tbh.

I personally, detest him, and haven't liked a collection from him since, what, 2013? 2015? And yet I'm totally with you - I love this, too. The retro-futuristic-couture, Pierre-Cardin-by-Georges-Chakra is really doing it for me. There's a sort of new precision in the embellishments and cuts, which left him free to go ham on those ridiculous shapes. The whole thing just feels like an 80's Hollywood elite yacht party by nighttime - it's an absolute mess, yes, but a hot mess.

I don't love everything - his use of fringe is really questionable, it really deserved a better cast, and I wish he'd edited more and brought out some daywear (though given the last fall collection, he might be better off skipping it entirely) - but this collection's really stuck out to me.
