MEET BECKA DIAMOND
The It Girl parade begins with an introduction to NYLON TV's newest host!
You might have seen her photographed front-row at this season’s best runway shows (Alex Wang, Joseph Altuzarra, Thakoon, etc). Or maybe you’ve pulled a snapshot of her from your go-to fashion blog (
Style.com,
Street Peeper,
Who What Wear). But still you must be wondering: Who's Becka Diamond?
It’s especially tricky to define a girl whose signature blonde hair and memorable name are both, by her own admission, fake. But while her flawless highlights might not be real, the girl certainly is.
Uncontested truths about Becka Diamond: She’s an acting student. She’d rather buy clothes than stay sane. She prefers Williamsburg to Upper East Siders. She can win any name-checking contest about any band that existed from 1970 until now. And, as of today, Becka Diamond is a NYLON TV host. Which means, today, Becka gets her very own NYLON interview…
Just a guess from all the pictures we see of you on street style blogs: You like to wear a lot of black? The thing is, I’m not a natural blonde. So, when I bleached my hair, I realized black looks so good with blonde hair!... I do like the idea of monochromatic. Like wearing all-white is just as amazing as wearing all-black. But New York is just to dirty for white, you know?
So you have expensive taste! Favorite Designers? Shopping Tips? Alex Wang, like every girl ever. I also love Balenciaga, Rick Owens, Balmain... Oh and you have to go to this store, Reformation, in the Lower East Side. I
love that store. It’s all this new and reconstructed vintage. This one girl there makes everything. NYLON girls would love that store.
You had your first NYLON TV shoot today. How did you feel in front of the camera? I guess it took a second to get used to it. I realized, ‘Okay, I'm the only one here; I have to make this segment work on my own.’ But I thought I’d be more nervous than I was. I can’t wait to do more.
You’ve lived in New York for a couple years now. Best NY moment? Well my worst New York Moment was when I had first moved here and I got bit on the back of my leg by a spider. Of course, I had no insurance at the time. So I go to Saint Vincent’s [hospital], because I have a baseball on my leg. Four hours in the waiting room… everyone’s staring. And then all I get is a doctor saying, ‘Oh yeah, that’s a spider bite. Here’s some antibiotic cream.’ That was so horrible. It’s gotten better since then!
Who’s your roommate? My boyfriend. His name’s Sonny Kilfoyle. He just left his band, Calypso. And now he’s doing solo stuff. It will be 8 years on November 1st. We have exact opposite personalities with the exact same interests. We go out or stay in and cook, it works great!
You cook for him? He cooks for me too! He’s Italian. We actually cooked together last Saturday. We made pork chops with farmer’s market apples and shallots. It was so, so good!
