Bella Hadid

As if she was the only model ever with surgery done lol. But to each their own I guess

Agreed, to me it seems pointless because many, many models have had various procedures and there is no actual way for us to tell or categorize them in this way--those who have had surgery and those who haven't. And why would we want to? I feel like it's totally valid to just be like "i don't like her look" whether that's because she's had surgery or not. Guessing endlessly at who has had what done, what is just a product of photoshop, what is make up, what is just growing up etc leads nowhere.

But you're right, everyone's got a different view I guess.

Completely agree with you here. How many of the Brazillians had their noses "fixed" at 14 or their breasts augmented or all manner of other alterations? And yet I don't really find people hollering and getting red in the face about that. I think it's a silly double standard and one that we shouldn't really care about in the first place. It's not like this is a plastic surgery disaster thread or something, it's a Bella Hadid thread.

Can we try and keep the topic on her work and not the work she's had done?

Keep in mind those pictures were taken when she was 13 or 14 if they were taken in 2011? Not arguing anything in particular, just saying it's a bit judgmental to be dwelling on how she looked then! Like, the whole plastic surgery (which she obviously had, again not arguing that and everyone's free to have an opinion on it) topic sure, but maybe we shouldn't be comparing her to those early photos just to be decent. XD

Exactly, we all lose "baby fat" on our faces when we grow up. I'd love it if she just talked about it once like Kylie did. People will speculate and then they will done talking about it.
She has a huge responsibility considering the age of her fans. They are at an age when are finding their identities and when they easily copy their idol of the month.
I said this for Kendall (on a tumblr fan blog) but I will tell it again. Young girls are easily influenced, they see their idol do something, they will do the same. Even though the celebrity will them not to. And these celebrities aren't perfect (no one is) but their actions have consequences.
A young girl whose idol is Bella can easily say: "I don't like my nose, or any part of my body; I'm going to have it done".
She's chosen to be in the public eye and it comes with a price.
(sorry for the rant)

nose surgery is so common because it's so noticeable and society is somehow very intolerant about it, if you have a big nose and some celebrity did too, you won't think 'ah damn my nose looked like hers and she got it done for a reason, I really have a bad nose'... and the reason you won't think that is because, very likely, people have 'informed' you about your nose from an early age... either in a playful way or a hurtful way, people will just tell you when one of your features is "off", repeatedly, especially kids. I agree it would be nice to see younger girls carrying their natural body with features that don't conform to conventions with more authority and pride like Sarah Jessica Parker or Barbra Streisand, but I think real life, outside the entertainment industry, is for once maybe even tougher about it, far more than the influence of a celebrity. I can say that the only two women that I knew back in school with a nose like Bella's.. they all had it done the moment they could, and I remember they were all refered to as 'the one with the nose right?', it didn't take a celebrity for them to feel crap about it, just daily life...

Lips is something else though.. I don't understand that, I don't think anyone looks like a better version of themselves with lip injections, Bella obviously gets them in the upper lip and I can see why cause it was very thin, but I think facial features have some kind of natural harmony to them and you shouldn't mess it up from the root that much.. I don't know, maybe it's just that lip injections are such an ugly procedure, it just always cheapens the way someone looks.

Anyway I think Bella is a gorgeous girl.. she did lose baby fat and will lose a lot more in the years to come.. it also makes a huge difference when people darken their brows and hair and get rid of a tan. For all the talk on how fake she is, I think her eyes are actually her best feature and that's all natural.

And yes, the Brazilian models back in the day came with breast implants, just like the Russians didn't arrive in the scene with their natural teeth.. people would've been horrified. Most models get "groomed" in some way.. and like someone said, it's just very rare to see it documented, I can only think of Snejana. I think there's a bit of a double standard in the idea that someone bleaching their hair or shaving it all off to get more modeling jobs is slightly more respectable than someone modifying their nose for the same purpose.. ultimately you're still making your body a product, which is an awesome opportunity or morally corrupt depending on how you look at it.

 if there was a bowing smilie, i'd use it.

I think for models, they're whole thing is about beauty..about how these human genes can create an otherworldly being, we like them because of the way they look. It's the look that makes them special, and it's because being born with such a look makes them so unique because so few people are born looking like that. When you have plastic surgery to turn an average girl into a model, then where's the special? It gets rid of the exclusivity, anyone can be a model with the right doctor (you can even get model height through surgery). It makes models not so special anymore. Does that make sense? If everyone becomes special, then no one really is special.
As for the eyebrow bleaching/haircut type stuff, they're usually temporary things so I guess people are less turned off by that. Personally I don't like that kind of stuff, you should look modelesque even in the most natural state, if you need to drastically modify your look by getting an edgy haircut or shaving your eyebrows then you're not really that modelesque

It makes sense, I probably even would have said the same thing when I was first getting interested in this industry, I just think my opinion changed over time. To me there's nothing special about good genes, it's just one factor in appearance. Appearance (or looking "like a model" which is different to different people throughout time) is just one facet of all the things that a person can be. Modeling is about that one facet, but it's not a good genes competition. Every model to some extent alters their appearance, diet, work out routine, styling, fashion sense, and personality (talking public personas, or how personal or removed you stay in your online presence) to model. Drawing a line at plastic surgery doesn't make sense to me when all those other factors are deemed acceptable, but it might make sense to you, which is fine.

This idea though that some people were just born perfect models is a fantasy. There is a lot that goes into a model's image, sometimes that's surgery sometimes it isn't, but no model looks exactly the way they did walking into the casting office or in the first snap taken by a scout. When Gisele or Natalia or Kate Moss or Christy or take their makeup off and get out of good lighting, they have physical imperfections. They don't have model genes that make them immune to this, that's just good marketing.

Photographing well, being good-looking, that's all a combination of these factors. What you put into your appearance, what you were born with, and what photoshop and a good photographer can make that look like. Literally the only thing required of a model is that they photograph well and that the image sells, throughout time that's been a variety of ideals as we all know.

Anyway, thanks for bringing that up because even if we may disagree somewhat I think it's a solid discussion to be having, and a conflict within the industry and fans that goes way beyond Bella Hadid actually.

My two cents (apologies in advance to everyone who wants to move on from this discussion :flower:): I don't find faces pretty that look altered, and I believe that I can see it (often) in Bella's case. I agree with mulletproof, I think it's mostly the lips, that make it look strange and also really old.

On the models/surgeries thing: maybe I can rather understsand having something done for your work, than at such a young age for personal reasons, but I actually don't even have an idea if Bella was already famous, hence "working" back then.

Having said that, I actually like Bella sometimes, I think she blended in well at Chanel, and I liked that there was not much drama around her walking the show, she was just there. (if there was drama, I missed it). I also quite like her eyes and and I'd normally quite like her "face type" (full lips, shape of eyes, face).

But like someone already said, I think her body looks least like a model's (in different ways), compared to the other social media girls. She's obviously not HF, but I wouldn't call her sexy or athletic, either. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with her body and no need to change anything, but this brings me to my main concern: why on earth do all these pretty and famous daughters have to become HF models??? Shouldn't there be plenty of other celebrity stuff for them to do? I find it particularly unfair as long as standards for the other girls don't change, and that's why I tend to be annoyed as soon as one of them shows up. When I saw that kravitz daughter for balenciaga I didn't even pay attention to what she actually looks like...

^ I agree. I actually think Cara Delevingne has a HF look but the rest of them would be very commercial imo. What I also don't understand is why they all have to be HF and not commercial? They could get tons of work in the LA and Miami markets, where most of them come from anyway. Is it purely to be able to say "I walked in a Chanel show"?

I just don't understand sometimes, like why would you want to be something that you're not good at and people for the most part don't appreciate your work? I know this isn't her thread but Kendall Jenner is boring in print yet I really like her on the runway yet a fashion model should be good at both. Bella and Gigi look out of place on the runway, but then again they chose to walk in HF shows and yet when Gigi gets negative attention for it she has a rant which never would have happened if she walked in a commercial show at LA Fashion week. I do realize that this is off topic, would people still be interested in discussing it if I made a new thread? :)

Bella's latest editorial is fine but just looks like a test shoot to me. It's just fine.

I don't think these nepotism girls even know anything about the LA and Miami markets, all they see is HF. And because they're not regular models (they have money, connections, and people who do major maneuvering for them) they get to circumnavigate those smaller markets and don't have to "settle." For example, Bella's version of being "in development" was a photo shoot for Marie Claire magazine. Not exactly the normal trajectory for a model who was just signed.

As for not appreciating their work...they get Instagram likes and the brand get promotion, hence they keep getting hired. Anything else is just white noise or "haters."

love the elle spread!

100 real or not she is a really stunning girl

i prefer her to gigi by far

she seems nicer than gigi, maybe because she's not as well known

i love the elle editorial, looks great

Agree, that Instagram she posted rebutting Michel Gaubert's Instagram shaming her plastic surgeries was so embarrassing..claiming she is 14 there? She quite clearly is not and if so, she must have had her surgeries at 13. I don't care about surgeries, the reason Bella gets hate is because she tries to lie.
