what age is the best to start studying + / or starting a career in fashion/modelling/advertising/designing.......

thanks so much for everyones contribution, i've really learnt so much from this forum, from others peoples questions and answers + peoples contribution to my questions too. i'm so grateful for your help,it's great understanding it so much more :flower:;)^_^

same as any other...
any time after you finish high school...

this is not a real question dear...
this is basic info...
there is no difference btw this and any other career...
you finish high school...and then apply to colleges...
and choose a major...

no big mystery there...

WEll, modeling is a little different ... most editorial fashion models start b efore they are out of high school ... 14 or 15 in a lot of cases. But they have to have dedicated parents to run them around and they have no social life at all, between school, casting calls and gigs. And starting as a model after the age of 20 is almost too late.

But other than that ... yeah ... get the schooling/training and move forward. Right out of high school will give you the best start and more time to do the years of hard work to make a career of it. It's more difficult if you are over 30 or so ... but can still be done.

I'm a photography student studying HND, by the time i get my degree i'll be 24. I'm not too bother- knew i'd never be one of those child progidy's like fenton bailey (david's son) who i expect started assisting him when he learnt to walk, and still does. Saying that when iwas on my ND last year there was a retired policeman (55yrs old) in the class below me. Guess this isnt the case with modelling though lol

I read an article in Teen Vogue abt this girl interning for an up and coming designer(Rodarte, I think, but I may be mistaken) at 13. THIRTEEN!! Doesn't anyone else think that's too early? Do you actually know what you really want to do at 13?

god i feel old, haha. yes i definately think that is too young. i know young people can be mature beyond their age but that is ridiculous! How can she know anything about anything? :o seriously, she's just turned a teenager. can only console myslef with the thought that she'll probably peak at 17

It's all about who you are and who you know. Rumer Willis (Demi and Bruce's daughter) is maybe 15 or 16 and she interns for Marc Jacobs. I am overly jealous.

Zac Posen interned at the Met for two years at 16 years of age, and then went on to intern at Nicole Miller and Tocca all before he even went to college.

I personally say you should learn as much about design as early as you can. Whether it be reading up about fashion illustration, garment construction, or famous/influentional designers from the past.

I agree with fashionicon, but it's so hard. I'm 15 and I'm applying for summer internships. I've been turned down and I've been asked for resumes. The problem is, I don't really have one.

Seeking internship at such an age shows how motivated you are. IMO you are pretty young and many companies are reluctant to hire people who aren't adults since they don't have enough life experience and aren't responsible enough. More over at your age they'll probably just boss you around and give you dirt jobs. Lastly the problem they have with non adults is that they will be heavily responsible for you and since you have school to attend you can't commit fully to the job for a period like 3 months. Despite that I think you should proceed because my philosophy in life is "If there is a will, there is a way". Eventually you'll get yourself en internship, but be patient. As for a resumé you should create one. It should consist of: Personal statement(1/2 page): Heavy weight on the word personal. Don't try to flash with complicated words just be yourself and try to get your personality to shine through. CV: Simply write down, in a proper format the 1-3 latest work experiences you've had. Previous work/samples: This is the most important part of a resumé in the world of fashion. Depending on what area of fashion is your expertise you should either attach pictures of some skirt or whatever you have created, your favorite outfit, simply anything to show off your creativity. If you do all this, you will increase your chance of getting and internship with 200%. If you want to be taken serious or even be considered a resumé is a must.
