Bhumika Arora

Love reading her story. So cute that they referred to her as "Ms. Arora." She's much older than I thought but doesn't look 27 at all. Love that she didn't give up on her dream. I can't wait to see her in editorials and hopefully campaigns.

What a surprise to find out that she's 27 :woot: I have a thing for older models but I never thought she would already be 27. How awesome! Thanks for posting the itw.

Top 10 Newcomers F/W 15 - Bhumika Arora
One newcomer that IMA has been barracking for more than any other this season is Elite Model Management Paris' Bhumika Arora from Karnal, India. IMA first crossed paths with the enigmatic Arora during the Spring/Summer 2015 collections backstage at the Cédric Charlier show and was enchanted by her gentleness of spirit, her unerring professionalism, and jaw-dropping beauty. At age twenty-seven, Bhumika is symbolic of the kind of diversity that is paving the way towards some of the most exciting and transformative times seen in modelling history. The scarcity of Indian models on the modelling landscape in recent years with Lakshmi Menon being the most recognised modelling export is inexplicable given the nation's estimated population of 1.27 billion inhabitants. Arora's distinctive powerful looks, magnificent brow line, and sensual androgyny make her a standout in any show line-up.

Indeed Arora's road to modelling stardom has been paved by sheer determination and an eagerness to improve and evolve within her craft. Discovered by a photographer who spotted her amateur modelling selfie pics in a local magazine, Arora relocated to Delhi where she modelled for a few years before taking her career to the next level by signing with Elite Model Management Paris in December 2013. Following a year of development, test shoots, and meetings with prospective clients, Arora was unleashed at the Fall/Winter 2015 collections debuting at Alexander Wang before blazing a trail through a riveting 24 show appearances. With the backing of key industry players including casting director Anita Bitton and stylist Charlotte Stockdale, watch for Arora to make an indelible mark in the Fall/Winter 2014 editorial and campaign stakes.

James Scully Shares His Six Standout Mods of The Season

Bhumika
Agency: The Society

“She was around last season, but no one really felt like she was ready. This season, all of the sudden she came back and was a different person. I don’t think the business is very open to Indian girls; hopefully she’ll be a breakthrough girl this year . She’s another one that has a presence. When she walks in the room, she basically wows people. With all of these girls, the thing that made them all very interesting was the fact that they had presence, and they all have different personalities. All of these girls have that similar star quality.”

She is soooo beautiful. I wish she'd blow up and be everywhere, it's been so long since we've seen a prolific South Asian model.

The Top 10 New Models of the Season Fall 2015

Bhumika Arora
(The Society)

At 27, Bhumika Arora is miles away from the stereotype of the preteen fashion model, having started after completing college. Arora's refined look has made her a favorite of designers like Olivier Rousteing and Marc Jacobs, and made her the first Indian high-fashion model since Lakshmi Menon to crack into modeling's upper echelon. Though the experience of fashion month is still new for her, Bhumika's confidence and poise make her one of the most exciting young women to watch on the catwalk.

Wow! She's stunning. I really hope she hits it big. It's a shame that there are so few South Asian models working in HF because they are honestly some of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. The only major ones that come to mind are Yasmeen and Lakshmi, but of course both have faded from the scene.

Indian Model Bhumika Arora Breaks Fashion’s Glass Ceiling

Modeling’s struggles with diversity are often judged in black and white terms, but the lack of models from South Asian backgrounds on the runways is an equally important issue within the industry. In the past two decades women such as Yasmeen Ghauri, Ujjwala Raut, and Lakshmi Menon have broken through fashion’s glass ceiling, but too often Indian faces in high fashion are a rarity. One model attempting to challenge this is newcomer Bhumika Arora, an M.B.A. student-turned-top catwalker who made the rounds this season. When asked about why we don’t see as many Indian models on the runways, Arora expressed confusion at fashion’s lag in diversity: “I honestly don’t know the exact reason—it could be a number of factors, but I hope that I can work hard and become part of a movement that keeps fashion as international as possible.”

Hailing from Karnal, India, Arora has been modeling internationally since 2013, but only hit the big leagues recently after being signed with The Society Management. At 27, she brings a womanly grace to her work that sets her apart from contemporaries and has attracted the attention of editors and designers alike. In an age-obsessed industry, admitting you’re over 20 can be a hindrance, but Arora sees her maturity as an advantage. “I have always been aware that this is an industry with more focus on ‘youth,’ but I try my best to not let that become a personal obstacle,” said Arora. “I think being more experienced in life helps me relate to many of the people I’m working with. I am especially thankful that I went through a longer journey of academic education, because it has helped me balance my mind as I now pursue yet another dream.”

Catching up with Arora post-Paris fashion week, we were struck not only by her beauty but also by the intelligence and grace with which she carries herself. Calm and easygoing, she is taking her success this season in stride. “Every single moment was amazing, and I really enjoyed all the shows I walked,” said Arora. “I felt extremely happy and honored to meet the super-talented people that I used to only watch on a TV screen.” Each show provided its own pleasures, but Balmain offered the model the chance to come face-to-face with two of her idols, Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima. Working with Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing was its own treat: “Olivier is one of the sweetest people I have met since I started in the business,” said Arora. “I didn’t get a chance to chat with him during the show day, but during the casting and fittings he was always incredibly sweet and easy to talk to. I have enormous respect for people who embody both talent and kindness, because then you want to root for their success no matter what.”

It's awesome to see she's recognized. Bhumika really brings something genuine to fashion.

Please let her snag a major campaign. Would love to see her in Alexander Wang or Balmain.

I love her so I really hope she blows up! She's so beautiful and seems so friendly and smart. I like reading her interviews. And more then anything, I want to see more South Asian people in the industry. They're so under represented and not just in fashion but in general. I'm glad that style.com mentioned that it's just as important.

She is very beautiful! Congrats to her making the top breakout season list!
