Billie Holiday, born Eleanor Fagan Gough also called Lady Day.

Born in Baltimore 7 april 1915,
died 17 july 1959 in New york.

Her life was tragic, she started to sing at nightclubs in Harlem in the early 1930s.
Listen to "God bless the child", "strange fruit" she got such a divine feeling in her voice,
i have no words for it...:crush::wub:

Wow I didn't realize that we didn't have a thread on Billie  Thanks for starting it!
I believe I read somewhere that she started wearing the magnolias because she burned/ruined some of her hair..and that it became a traitmark..

    (sonymusic.com)

I found her life so interesting and tragic
I wish Queen Latifah could play her, Diana Ross didn't even get close to how she really was and looked

thanks so much for starting this thread, lady stardust:heart:!!!she is my favourite singer.she could convey raw and pure emotions like no one else-her voice bleeding through the micro in all dark velvety shades a bit rough at the seams....just without comparison.the 5th picture of post 2 is one of my absolute favourites...

    strange fruit:

Southern trees bear a strange fruit, Blood on the leaves and blood at the root, Black body swinging in the southern breeze, Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees. Pastoral scene of the gallant south, The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth, Scent of magnolia sweet and fresh, And the sudden smell of burning flesh. Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck, For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck, For the sun to rot, for a tree to drop, Here is a strange and bitter crop.

^Yes, thank so much for the lovely thread. Love the photos of her in slightly masculine clothing, great contrast with the flower in her hair.
