Blonde Redhead

Only one of my friends has ever heard of Blonde Redhead. Whenever I have it playing they are like, "What in the world is this."

I love it, personally. Since the first time I heard "This Is Not".

I first heard this band on the old ambiance hour on KEXP. It's really beautiful music imo.

Heve You seen short article and beautiful pick. in V-magazine? Unfortunately I'm not sure which issue it was...:(

new album!!!

Last week, we shared "Here Sometimes", a mysterious new Blonde Redhead song. At the time, we didn't know anything about the band's plans for the track, but now we know that it's the opening track from a new Blonde Redhead album. Penny Sparkle, the New York trio's follow-up to 2007's 23, arrives September 14 in the U.S. and a day earlier everywhere else, via 4AD.

The band recorded Penny Sparkle in New York and Stockholm, working with Fever Ray producers Van Rivers and the Subliminal Kid, whose synth-heavy background should have an interesting effect on Blonde Redhead's luxuriant guitar clangor. Shoegaze legend Alan Moulder mixed, just as he did for 23.

In a press release, frontwoman Kazu Makino, in typically impenetrable form, had this to say about the album: "I fell in love with the music like falling for someone you've known for a long time. It was dreamy and sometimes was very stormy. At times I felt like a shepherd who was trying to herd five stallions into a yard (unsuccessfully). I felt like I was a link to everyone. I remained still and the others were constantly moving around it. I am not sure what Penny Sparkle is but I hope I offered to them as much as they offered me. I know that we have never made a record this way and if I could go back in time, I would do it exactly the same way again."

The band also has a few live shows scheduled for the months ahead, with more to come soon.

van rivers and subliminal kid....should be a very interesting collaboration. they did some great stuff not only with fever ray but bat for lashes as well.

and if you haven't already, they have a free download of 'here sometimes' on their web site. i highly recommend it

^i i'm so excited they're working with the fever ray producers, i cant even take it. and i always love their album titles.. "penny sparkle" is no exception :-)

i hope so too mullet :ninja:

here sometimes has been on heavy rotation since i downloaded so i have high hopes for the rest. of course given the quality of their music and every album they've done,of course i would anyway.

I really like Blonde Redhead! Though it's a long time ago that I've listened to their songs.
I'm thinking of going to one of their concerts.

i saw them back in 2003. fantastic live show, of course. theirs is one of the few band t shirts i wear on a regular basis; it's so beautifully constructed that i still get lots of compliments on it (people ask if i made it myself). Back then I was obsessed with In an expression of the Inexpressible, altho haven't really been intrigued enough to listen to their newer stuff...

remember this? kate betts featured some pretty rad yet to be big (relatively anyways) cultural/musical figures during her stint at HB:

it seems like ages since their last release....they're finally out with a new track and an announced album,'barragán', that will release september 2. it feels like they've gone back to their noise roots but still retaining an element of etherealness they've become accustomed to recently.
