well everyone is wondering where will they show. I guess this is the answer. Sounds like a good idea, I wish more designers (myself included) would explore this possibility

from WWD monday.
this is a partial story, i will try to post the full story later today

Fashion Scoops: Boudicca Moves On ... Window Watchers
BOUDICCA MOVES ON: Zowie Broach and Brian Kirkby, the design duo behind Boudicca, are swapping the runways of New York Fashion Week for the catwalks of Paris couture. A spokeswoman for the duo, who moved their show from London to New York in fall 2004, said the spring 2007 collection would be produced and sold as usual. They plan to stage their first Paris show in January 2007 as part of the off-schedule calendar. “Boudicca really isn’t about trends; it’s more about design and craftsmanship. The fit with New York just wasn’t right anymore,” said the spokeswoman. “Zowie and Brian plan to enter Paris quietly on the off-schedule, but they’re committed to showing there for the long haul.” Boudicca, famous for its mix of razor-sharp tailoring, sculptural designs, and ongoing experimentation with fabrics and fragrance, certainly isn’t the first rtw brand to crash the Paris couture party. In the past, rtw design houses such as Yohji Yamamoto and Azzedine Alaïa have shown off-calendar at the Paris Couture, and Lanvin and Azzaro continue to show during that week.

...it certainly sounds better than imitation of christ! :innocent:

^haha, so true. i will forever remember that as one of the worst "haute couture" shows ever shown....!

i just keep waiting for them to go out of business...
i can't believe they haven't already...

:ninja:...
rochas closes and these guys don't ...
i bet rochas made more money than they do!!...
they just refuse to stop...

While their style of clothing doesn't appeal to me, I can see why they have lasted for as long as they have...

american express funding? :innocent:

while i must admit that i am a hardcore rochas fan, it's undeniable that there is a big difference in business scale between boudicca and them...

i am wondering how this translates into their clothing, hopefully they will take the opportunity and turn their crafty tailoring into something that is at once edgy and commercial... i personally think they did well in the last couple of seasons in which they showed in NY, no matter how painfully conceptual they were thinking, but the clothes - especially the jackets and skirts - were brilliant.

I'm not really surprised, it seems that alot of the US stores that sold them before arn't now, so they go back to Europe. I don't know if couture week is the best place for them, but whatever.

I agree with Spacemiu. To show during Paris fashion week is one thing, but couture week is a completely different story.

I guess we'll see come January.

why should we believe that designers like Rei, Yoji, MMM Issey, etc should be successful in business and they should collapse?
I actually do like thier work.
unlike other young/ independent designers who are talking about taking inspiration from Marylin Monroe and ancient screen Goddesses, they are interested in finding thier own voice, and adding to the scope of what fashion is, for this reason they have my respect even though i dont neccessarily like thier style.
Being in business does not always have to do with how much you sell.
Obviously, to sell is good business and it makes life much easier, but a lot of times people manage to stay in business because they have the technical resources and the knowledge to consitently do the things that keeps on in business whether or not they are really prrofitable (i am speaking from experience here).
one of the best way to stay in business is to keep ones business small, and cater to a select clientele, maybe this is what they do, (even though im not sure what they do)
also, i saw their work up close and it is not as extreme as it seems on the runway. at barneys (NY)they have some really wearable pieces some of which are just really basics whith extreme proportions (almost like Viktor and Rolf) and the fact that they use mostly black and other solids make the garments probably more saleable that we might think

well for sure it isn't selling....:ermm:...
some of it's very nice...it's true..
but it's hard to wear...so-hard to sell...

which could generally lead to going out of business...
i guess that is my only point..
just logic...

everything else you say is true of course...
it's easier to get by with low profits if you keep your overhead low and stay small..

well i agree they may not be selling, but...........
i really want them to stay in business.

i went to barneys a few weeks back,. and everything from the smaller design houses seems so bland Proenza Schouler polo t-shirts and linen pants, IOC denim) i also have been checking out a lot of independent botiques and everything seems so girly, straighforward and boring, the is no ingenuinity, no element of surprise, everything seemed so calculated, studied and rehearsed i need the anger, the passion, and the surprise. (im partially to be blamed for this too, i was coming home on the train today and agonizing over the fact that ive become this big caculated coward that they have reign in) thats why i really wanted to show this season to add some innovation and exitement to all that is happening. I love boudicca, Chalayan, Preen Mcqueen (when he gets angry) theyskens, balenciaga, Hamish Morrow, gaultier etc.
for them its not only about selling (i know this is very important because we all need money to grow, pay our staff and keep going) but................
for fashion to be interesting it needs a cast of diverse characters, with diffrent perspectives and the brilliance to execute their vison
fashion would be really painful to view if we only had the Prada's, CK's, and Ralph Lauren's around

but regardless of our different views much luch to you Softgrey you are my favorite TFS member (Ssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh   )

...
zamb.......

but i didn't say i WANT them to go out of business...dear...
just that i am surprised that they haven't...

of course i encourage diversity and different points of view...
and i have found some of their work to be quite poetic...
:P

No one likes Boudicca?  I love them! Their designs are amazing, architectural and avantgarde. At least they aren't a big 'ole snoozefest like most of the New York designers.

I have no doubt that they'll show an amazing collection worthy of Paris and haute couture, especially if their last (brilliant) collection is any indication!

Boudicca is great, one of the highlights to the dour NY 'fashion' scene. Edgy, novel, sophisticatedly fresh, never cliched. Which is more than I can say for the rest of the junk coming out from NY.

Mmmhmm! I think that they'll do great in Paris. Their Fall '06 collection was brilliant, so I just hope that they can keep the momentum going.

i love their collections, i just dont always enjoy their catwalk esthetics which occasionally i find 'overstyled'.
i dont see their work as 'hard to wear' and anyway, i believe they sell pretty well, at least in europe.
it was an experiment for them to show in NY and maybe not a very succesful one, glad to see them back in europe and regarding the level of their work and they core customer, somehow for me they fit better at Couture than at the Pret-a-Porter calendar
