Brooke Shields: 'I was a virgin until the age of 22 because I didn't like the way I looked'

Brooke Shields has let slip that she lost her virginity at the age of 22. The twice-married actress, who rose to fame as a child star, revealed that she regretted waiting so long but was put off because she lacked self-confidence in her appearance. Now 43, she told U.S. magazine Health that her biggest 'health regret' was not learning to love the way she looked earlier.

She said: 'I think I would have lost my virginity earlier than I did at 22. I had the public and all this pressure, and I wish I had just gotten it over with in the beginning when it was sort of OK. I think I would have been much more in touch with myself. I think I wouldn't have had issues with weight. I carried this protective 20 pounds [in college]. It was all connected.'

Her insecurity may come as a surprise, given that her sharp cheekbones and striking eyebrows helped her to feature regularly in lists of the world's most beautiful people.

Brooke achieved fame in the late Seventies when, as a 12-year-old, she played a prostitute in the film Pretty Baby. She even had a nude scene in the movie, but this was cut from many releases.

In 1980, she had another provocative role. The Blue Lagoon saw the 15-year-old actress perform love scenes with with her co-star Christopher Atkins. Her character had nude scenes too, but these were carried out by older body doubles.

At the age of 15 the beautiful young actress sparked further controversy by starring in a Calvin Klein advertisement, in which she provocatively said to the camera: 'You wanna know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.'

Despite a series of sexual roles, she surprised readers by proudly proclaiming that she was a virgin in her autobiography, written when she was 20. In the book, entitled On Your Own, she wrote: 'I'm willing to admit I'm a virgin because I feel so strongly about it. 'Love is what I want to wait for. I don't feel the need to experiment.'

There were reports that she slept with Superman actor Dean Cain, whom she dated while at Princeton University, but she has never publicly confirmed or denied the claims. Brooke famously wed tennis player Andre Agassi in 1997, but the marriage was annulled less than two years later. In 2001, she tied the knot with writer Chris Henchy, with whom she has two daughters.

is it confirmed that it is indeed her in those pics? because it doesnt look like her. her body is hot but its not like the one in the pics. not at all.

I heard an interview with Debbie Harry somewhere, and she said the song "Pretty Baby" was written about Brooke.
Great song! Never knew it was about Brooke, but so appropriate!
