Yes - I used to chat with a handicapped guy in a wheelchair from Sri Lanka who sold roses in the old town of Düsseldorf! He was always very chirpy & cheerful though! I think people felt genuinely sorry for him!
Yes - I don't think people are particularly racist here - anymore than people in Australia are! 
German people are generally quite tolerant these days! 
I noticed however in London things are getting worse for immigrants since those bombs went off! I hope things get back to normal soon there - London is normally such a beautiful & peaceful city! (oh dear this post has absolutely zero to do with Carmen! do forgive me!

It's great to hear that your handicapped friend is accepted in the German society, coz I always hear this thing about the over-population of the Turkish people in Germany. Do they get accepted nowadays?
and I watched Fassbinder's "Angst essen Seele auf" (Fear eats the soul) it was realistic and very sad for sure, in the way that it depicted acceptance to foreigners, because they want to take advantages out of them, not because of an act of kindness! It's very sad that London is becoming so cautious nowadays! I wonder when I will be visiting such a wonderful city though? Can't wait to shop at a genuine Marks & Spender!
