Carmen Kass

honestly, when a talented model does crappy works for vs, we know who actually deserves the blame

^

SOO beautiful!!

generally - i feel like she looks better now than she ever has before! i was absolutely blown away at how transcendentally gorgeous she was at the VSFS.

i totally agree - the fact that she is supremely confident of her own beauty when she appears with girls half her age only brings out more of her charm and beauty

what???

honestly, when a talented model does crappy works for vs, we know who actually deserves the blame

jiaqi, if I did not read your name on this post I would never believe you actually said hat!
Carmen NEVER did crapy works for VS, all her work for VS is impecable! VS makes one of the best catalogs on the Planet and I see no reason why people complain about it being boring. If you start calling catalogs boring, you should include all of hem then! VS is one of the least boring ones.
Carmen did verylittle vor VS,so she never reached the boredom level yet.
Her recent work for VS is fantastic!
and who deserves the blame and what blame at all?

at first i wanted to say "cool down, dear" but then i think wouldn't it be cool to have a bit spirited discussion between us on a day when there is no new stuff B) - now i don't think either of us will be tired of collecting both carmen's works and vs catalogs. but carmen's career with vs and her career outside vs can and must be clearly differentiated by the diversity that marks the latter. vs always strikes me as embodiment of some very exclusionary taste and vision of femininity - not that that particular taste or vision is wrong, which is why "crappy" is probably unjustified harshness on my part, but that excluionariness certainly is. it frustrates (and sometimes even delights me) that there are many beautiful girls who are bound never to appear in a vs catalog, which flows from the predictability in the way vs packages and propagates its very static conception of femininity.

at any rate, it is not the first time i touched upon the topic of diversity in the fashion world here on tfs (my most recent musing on the subject took place very recently in elise's thread #6562) i am not such a hardened feminist as to say what vs does is morally and philosophically objectionable - and i would be too hypocritical to say that because i do watch their shows, do buy their merchandise and do read their catalogs, and usually doing all those with joy - but vs almost never expands its definition of what is sexy. while vs continues to produce nice catalogs for us, i am going to make a very bold call and say that most likely designers of vs clothes and photographers of vs catalogs are much more conservative creatively and politically than fellow photographers and designers in the fashion world.

I have to agree with you jiagi about the amateurishness of VS photoshoots. I have loved Carmen since 1998, so 11 years, and her VS work has always been of my least interest. I dont collect VS catalogues, I think they're tacky (this is just my opinion, Rado ;)) and dont watch the shows, anyway, compare a VS catalog to something jaw-dropping like Terry Richardson for VP in '06, or some of her late 90's eds for Bazaar, her photoshoots for Chanel and Versace, these are all much more intriguing to look at, and maybe since VS has a totally different demographic and client than Chanel or Versace, I am drawn to Carmen's work for the latter, and never been impressed by or been interested in VS. Sorry, Carmen, Dear I still love you to death!!

the top second one is from a French Vogue editorial, the first with the hair all over her face is HORRIBLE! They tried to make a Kate Moss V version with the facial hair and it looks just bad, very very bad(much worse that any VS catalog I ever saw)lol
Not sure if I ever saw this advertorial posted here...it is from German Vogue from 2007, scanned by me:

#4509 it's priceless though it looks too much like the adds christina aguilera did for stephen webster jewelry, maybe they used the same photographer:ermm::ermm::ermm:
