Evelyn Lauder's Vase Spectacular
Shooting ladies' heads for a cause
Friday, April 13, 2007
(LOS ANGELES) No one messes with
Evelyn Lauder. Dressed in a black brocade Michael Kors jacket and matching dress, she graciously met and greeted all the moguls who arrived for her
Perceptions of Beauty photographic exhibit at the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills Thursday night with huge smiles—and a hard sell. Her pictures of “lady head vases” that she’s collected over the years—“at flea markets, on eBay, there’s even a head vase convention!” she laughed—were being sold to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and everybody who entered through the doors—including
Bob Iger and
Willow Bay,
Michael Eisner,
Candice Bergen,
Sherry Lansing,
Carolyn Murphy, and husband
Leonard Lauder—was given a pink breast cancer ribbon to wear. "I started collecting ‘the girls’ 10 years ago,” Lauder said of the pieces, “and in all that time, I’ve only found a head vase of one animal: a white poodle. I hate to part with the pictures, but the cause is so important that I’m constantly shooting new ones.” When
Barbara Davis sauntered in clad in a Valentino jacket and a Chanel top, not to mention large Buccellati pin, cooing to Lauder, “They’re so beautiful!” to which the hostess’ swift reply was, “Which one are you buying?” Sure enough, Davis picked one up in a New York minute.
But that didn’t mean she didn’t have time for a little fashion talk. “Whose dress is that?” she asked Murphy of her purple satin mini. The Estée Lauder spokesmodel had to have a guest peek into her dress tag to answer. “Phillip Lim,” she responded, before giggling, “You would think I’d know what designer I’m wearing. But I really just wanted to see Evelyn’s photos. She’s really talented.”
