And the above poster was correct; MOST models aren't naturally "bone" skinny. yes, some are naturally thin, but even these ones often go to drastic measures to get that waif look. of course i'm not talking about ALL models, but certainly the majority.
How can you really know that for sure? That's a pretty big assumption to make.

Does anyone else think former runway model and current plus size model Carre Otis bears a striking resemblence to The Joker from Batman?

Every time I see her I can't help but think "Wait till they get a load of me!"

thats a really bad photo of hers. I think shes still one of the most beautiful models ever!!

Glamourina That picture....oh my! :P

But it isn't really fair, I think she is beautiful, although I have no idea how she looks nowadays

That is a horrible pic of her! There was a topic about her back in December when she made the cover of Elle.

Here it is! She looks amazing and isn't plus anymore! At least to me. :flower:

as women go she's not even "big." I remember her being on 20/20 or something and having to defend herself for not being like 115 lbs... what?? I mean look at her, she's not remotely pudgy or anything! the world is crazy  but to get back to the point, she looks GREAT! very vixen-ish cover...

carre otis is one of the the most beautiful ones there ever were.a goddess.definitely.and she is aging well because she turned her troubles around and helps OTHERS now.sometimes I think the self centeredness of this great but crazy industry can turn even the most beautiful among us ugly.anyway well done carre

This thread has been floating around for a couple of years, and I've NEVER seen this cover! Glad to see that Carre got back on her feet.

I was watching Wild Orchid the other day. OMG, that woman is astounding.:woot:

hi!!! i think that after "Wild Orchy" she started dating Mickey Rourke, and he was pretty crazy and one day after drugs and alcohol, he shot her by mistake, so there was a lot more to recover, appart from eating problems and her own drug addictions.

some pics of her::flower:

i found an article on the story:

On July 18, 1994, Otis was allegedly slapped, knocked down, and kicked in a Hollywood office by husband Mickey Rourke. Rourke was charged but Otis refused to testify against him in court.
In 1991, Otis got a gunshot wound to her shoulder during a visit with Rourke in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She claimed that the .357 Magnum went off when she dropped her purse on a table.

You may recall seeing pictures of Carré Otis, the beautiful model who graced the covers of such magazines as Elle, Sports Illustrated, and Vogue. In the late 1990's, Carré proudly showed off her size-2 shape for a variety of Calvin Klein ads and swimsuit picture spreads. She was the epitome of beauty—on the outside. Inside, she fought an ugly battle with her own self image.

"What's important is balancing the images we see in magazines with something that's a little more realistic. That would do wonders for our self-esteem."

Us Weekly "Figuring It Out"
Carré’s constant obsession with her weight spanned her 17-year career as a model. During this time, she lived her life conforming to the criticisms of those in the modeling industry. She admits, "The fashion world isn’t an environment where health is necessarily encouraged." 1 She constantly starved herself, limiting her diet to one small meal a day. She kept her thin figure by substituting drugs and alcohol for food. By the age of 28, Carré realized that this dangerous lifestyle would eventually kill her.
Her wake up call came in an unexpected place. On a humanitarian mission in Nepal, she held a dying baby in her arms. Surrounded by starvation and death, she vowed to begin appreciating life and respecting her body.

She relied upon recovery programs, Buddhism, and her own inner strength to re-establish health and self-love. By learning to eat normally, Carré has now stabilized her weight at a healthy 155 lbs. She eats a well-balanced, vegetarian diet, maintains an active lifestyle, and accepts her body’s unique strengths. She remembers, "I used to measure how I felt based on what size jean I wore, how skinny I was. Now I see myself in terms of health." 1 She is 30 lbs heavier—and her modeling career is thriving.
Carré celebrates the fact that she can now bring a positive message about body image to women everywhere. She reinforces the need for positive self image: "We need to make our body type the best it can be and get away from comparing—that’s a killer." 1

based on that elle cover - there is no way she is still 155 pounds (as stated in the above article, but that might be old)

her early pictures are great, I love what Herb Ritts did with her.
