I translated to english, so sorry all the spelling and grammar mistakes :p

Cecilia Méndez : Encanto for export
By Gabriela Semmartín

She is one of the Argentinean models that are very successful right now on the fashion world. She is 21 years, she is been living for two years by herself in NY and she has already modelled for Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren and Karl Lagerfeld, etc . But she still says that Buenos Aires is her “place in the world” and that her only dream is to become a lawyer and have a normal live.

When you see her, you could guess that good part of her fame and projection in the runways of the World its because her 1.80 of height and her perfect sizes (81-61-89). But as we talk Cecilia Mendez keeps clear that she is a normal girl with clear goals, secure of herself and with a good dosis of that “thing” that is needed to be successful that a lot of people call attitude.

“I didn’t dream to be a model, I wanted to study and to become a lawyer….have a normal life”, she says contrary to a lot of expectation that girls of her same age would have, that they kill for a second of her fame.

Destiny wanted for her another thing, one day o f August wile she walked with her boyfriend on Florida street, she was discovered by someone who worked on Hype Management, who didn’t hesitate on stopping her, ask her number and pass it to the owners of the agency. Ceci says “ I gave him (the phone #) to get him away from me, but I was very nervous by the situation that instead of giving the wrong number I gave him the real one. The next day they called me and then everything started.”.

“The truth is that everything was so sudden, my parents didnt want me to travel and I started to take things more seriously alter my first trip. Its like this, once you start you cant get out, who walk away don’t get the prize” she says knowing that tenacity and constancy are the key for success on the runway and in life.

Although she has to be away from her family and her boyfriend, Alejandro the bass player of the alternative rock band Aurelio, the same that accompany her to her first interview with the agency and that has been with her for more than 5 years, she prefers to see the glass half full and to focus on the positive aspects of her modelling career. “It’s a life of few years, but at the same time is a great experience, you can travel and meet a lot of people ”. Some of her new friends are the models Valeria Garcia, Romina Lanaro, Martina Correa and her boyfriend, photographer “Chino” Moro, who are the ones that share afternoons of mate (argentinean tea) or skating in Central Park

Not even the distance or these friends that she calls the “Argentinean mafia” supply the missing of her loved ones in her native Villa Ballester, with whom she communicates a lot via mail. “Im a fan of technology and I carry my Blackberry everywhere I go, so when somebody sends me an email, I get it and answer it right away. And when Im at home I spend chatting with my friends. I have in my computer a web cam and I also installed a program to talk by the Internet, so I’m super connected”

Every time her works allows her, she takes a plane and comes back to her parents home. “I take every free time that I have to come, I do it 3 or 4 times a year. I love being with my family, my friends and my boyfriend, the only thing bad is that when I come everybody is working and I want to go out, go to concerts. That’s something that I love. I know I don’t have the look but I love the Redonditos of Ricota and I went several times to see Skay and once to see Indio Solari.”

After all her tastes, her essence and her priorities looks like they haven’t changed with time and designers. The Cecilia Mendez of today, the same girl that killed time walking by Florida a few years back, and still dreams to become a lawyer on UBA (university of Buenos Aires). “I just subscribed to take some free classes on December” she says. She also loves to be on jeans, t shirt and sneakers.
She is just living some time on the most exotic and glamorous cities of the world, but she promise to return to live forever on her beloved Buenos Aires.
