Chanel Haute Couture S/S 2023 Paris

The models look so dumpy in these clothes! For Spring/Summer, it feels very heavy in a "too close to my neck" kind of way. The hats and the bow ties add to this feeling, which just feel like a stylistic after thought. It's so cringey.

Get them to chuck on a good heel to elevate the looks up and already we'd be getting somewhere. Not very far, but somewhere.

She is very middle-of-the-road French, very provincial.

I just can't with her anymore. How can she design something that is both childish and matronly in one collection?

Her dressmaking is still so weak and unimaginative. So mediocre.
And the tweed is basic at best, those miniskirts will not look flattering on anyone.
The styling is laughable, it's on the verge and looks like a cartoon caricature.

And the wedding look is the perfect look to close this trainwreck of a show.

Thank God this is the last season of the collaboration with Xavier Veilhan, because his sets have been disturbingly bad. They don't spark joy, they spark anxiety. Not to mention it was him who was responsible for the infamous contructivist makeup last year. That said, even if the set had been better, this collection would still be an absolute non-event. Once again, it's too heavy and infantile, almost as if a 12 yo had designed it.

she almost got me with those first looks.
few of the tailleurs are ok but those long dresses are hideous.
the gimmick of using those hats and bow ties is just ridiculous.

how is it possible to make Chanel look cheap? this is her achievement.

clearly she will be replaced, no one on it’s right mind will keep this nonsense. when does her contract end?

From next month, it will be 4 years with Viard at the helm. Apparently she's 60 to 61 years old (born in '62), so there's a large possibility of her retiring in 2024/25.

Re: those bow ties. Do they not have a jewelry line they could have used instead?

I don’t know. Sure, a client with a strong sense of personal style can modify the clothes to look better IRL, but with this collection, that step would take a whole lot of imagination to bring to fruition.

The tailleur part is decent but my god the eveningwear is diabolical.
She is at the level of Alexis Mabille and my love for Alexis Mabille’s work is well documented here.

I know Chanel is doing well under her but they will do even better with someone really talented.

I think her tenure at Chanel is worst than Julien MacDonald for Givenchy.

If Maria Grazia Chiuri made a collection for Chanel it would be like this!
In all fairness, her skills in dressmaking are far more superior than this. Yes her work is boring but her dresses never looked wrong or weird in terms of design and execution.
