THE car crash that nearly claimed the life of international model Charlbi Dean Kriek has given her a new outlook on life.




Kriek, who has modelled for Gucci, Guess and Ralph Lauren, damaged two vertebrae and broke her wrist, four ribs and an elbow. She also suffered internal injuries, including a collapsed left lung and a ruptured spleen.

“I am definitely on the road to recovery. I experience a lot of pain still, but the medication does help,” Kriek said.

“I am able to walk to the pool at my home and back. I get really tired doing that, but it’s more than I could do a few weeks ago.”

Kriek said she had to have her spleen removed because of the accident and had a brace on her leg for six weeks.

“I have surprised myself at how much better I am doing.

“This has given me an opportunity to spend time with my family and boyfriend, who have been really supportive and helped me get through this.”


The international model said surviving the accident had given her new perspective on life and she wanted to get more involved in charity work.

“It’s easy to give money, but I’d like to be more hands-on. Giving back requires time and I’ve realised that, for someone who is healing , having someone who reads a book for you makes the day go by a bit faster.”

Meanwhile, Kriek has missed out on a photo shoot for make-up giant Maybelline.

“I have missed a few jobs, but … there’s always next year. Modelling for me is not a lifestyle. It’s just a job."

Esperanzo-I believe the "Jenna" with Charlbi is Jenna Pietersen, a South African lingerie and swim wear model. She is pursuing Journalism studies on the side and can't leave home without her cell phone, lip gloss, and a positive attitude (info courtesy of Holly's Girls hollysgirls.com/blogspot)

I wish we had more info like this about Charlbi-I'd seriously love to know what that girl eats especially! I'd adopt the plan asap, lol! But, in all seriousness it would be kind of nice to have a bit more information. Does anyone have access to enlarging the GQ scans? Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the S. African addition here in the U.S. Major karma to anyone who's able to put up the interview.
