[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]8. Rome, 1972

"Everybody knows this picture, but it actually came about in the strangest way. We were in Rome in 1972, but the shooting on 'The Night Porter' had come to a complete stop. We had simply run out of money. The director asked me if we could do some pictures, something to help raise some money so we could continue shooting the movie. So we set this up in my dressing room, and the whole thing ended up happening in 10 minutes. Somebody said, 'OK, put your hands on your breasts.' So I did. That's the way it happened - completely improvised, but we did a lot of things that way back in the seventies."

9. Ireland, 1973

"Barnaby, my eldest, was about three months old when 'The Night Porter' was going on, and in this picture he's six months. Which means we're all up in Ireland shooting 'Zardoz' with John Boorman - notice the irish cable-knit cardigan. I worked much too much back then but, of course, I had no idea what too much was at the time. Look at me - I look about 10 years old!"

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]10. Being photographed by Eve Rudling, 1975

"It was 1975, and the swedish photographer Eva Rudling put me in all those furs for her book. Obviously we weren't anti-fur back then. To tell you the truth, we weren't politically correct in any way whatsoever."

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]11. With Jean-Michel, 1976

"It does look like Jean-Michel and I are deciding to go somewhere. This is 1976, and I had just met him before the Cannes Festival, where I was a member of the jury, and he flew down to join me and we were very much in love. The jacket was a beautiful embroidered thing from an italian movie called 'Yuppi Du'. Don't laugh! The italians loved it, but it never left Italy. It's one of the few times I've gotten to sing and dance."

12. Hollywood, 1976

"The dress is Bruce Oldfield - I had lots of clothes by him. And the tusks, of course, are in Hollywood, where all the tusks go. Where else would I be caught dead camping around like that?"

13. At home in Paris, 1982

"Yes, Madame is at home. Aren't I just so well behaved? Feet together, faithful hound - if you were to walk in on me today and surprise me, I dare say you would see me exactly like that."

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]14. With Jean-Michel, 1989

"Bernard Perris dressed me in 'Max, mon amour' [in 1986], and this is his work as well. Unfortunately, he died. The dress had a simple lovely neck - it went right up to the top. And Jean-Michel is all in Yamamoto."

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]15. With Dirk Bogarde, 1984

"This is around the time Dirk Bogarde and I were doing a french TV series about the Louvre, which I only did because Dirk was doing it and he asked me. We were talking about the greeks and also about the Flemish painters. What an extraordinarily refined mind Dirk had - but edged with an irresistible bitchiness. I absolutely adored him. You don't find too many people with that kind of style any more - it's running out."

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]16. With Alan Bates, 2000

"You know, in 1966, I played opposite Alan Bates in 'Georgy Girl' and here it is 34 years later; we appeared together in 'The Cherry Orchard'. My god - how fantastic. After all this time living in France, I missed terribly not being with english actors. And Bates, after all, is a genius. I do like the shape of this outfit. Its Chloe, By Stella McCartney - a long skirt, nipped in at the waist. It's what feels the most comfortable to me."

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]17. At a party.

"If you look down at my left hand, you'll see I'm using a walking stick - I was trotting down a flight of stairs and I fell and broke my knee. The Jacket is Jean-Michel's - it's velvet. I could easily wear that now."

"It's me and Jean-Michel at the launch of another Oxygene album, and Jean-Michel is wearing his Armani shirt, and I have cut off my hair. Then I was told that it wasn't such a good idea, and now it's all long again."
