schmoses said:here y'all go- New York designer Marc Jacobs, whose leather handbags go for up to $1,000 and are fixtures among the fashionista set, plans to open a store in the Bucktown neighborhood featuring Mr. Jacobs’ less expensive, urban-oriented line Marc by Marc Jacobs. The Bucktown store at 1714 N. Damen Ave., the company’s first in Chicago, is to open by later summer after the completion of some interior and exterior renovations. Marc Jacobs currently has 12 U.S. stores, including three Marc by Marc Jacobs locations in New York, Los Angeles and Boston. The new, 4,000-square-foot store further establishes Bucktown, a hipster haven, as a shopping destination. The neighborhood has attracted trendy boutiques such as Scoop NYC and Raizy in recent years, but Marc Jacobs is the first big-name designer to put a store there, says Adam Secher, a principal with Baum Realty Group Inc. who represented the landlord in the lease. The Bucktown area has changed dramatically in the past three years,” Mr. Secher says. “Marc Jacobs is a trendsetter in fashion and real estate.” A Marc Jacobs spokeswoman didn’t return calls seeking comment. Mr. Jacobs, who launched his own clothing line in 1986, is also creative director for French fashion house Louis Vuitton. Marc Jacobs was represented in its Chicago lease by Lorraine Adney, a local vice-president with Philadelphia-based McDevitt Co. Ms. Adney says the designer looked for sites throughout Chicago, focusing on Lincoln Park and the Gold Coast neighborhoods in addition to Bucktown. The store will have women’s and men’s clothing and accessories. “It’s a beautiful space and a beautiful building,” Ms. Adney says. “Hopefully it will be a great spot for them, and an important addition to the Bucktown neighborhood.”
Holy crap. This is news.haoshcn said:Nordstrom actually carries Marc Jacobs menswear, yes, the mainline. They also carry menswear from Neil Barret, Dolce&Gabbana (again, the mainline), and the most surprisingly, Marni ! I saw several leftover pieces of Marc Jacobs and Dolce&Gabbana from Fall/Winter when I was there several weeks ago. Seriously I never paid much attention to Nordstrom since it's always so plain, so it's apparently a big surprise to see those clothes. Then I talked with a SA. He told me Nordstrom actually bought Jeffrey, so Jeffrey Kalinsky now became their fashion director or something like that. Apparently they are trying to upgrade Nordtrom's image, and start carrying some more high-end designers at several premium locations (Nordstrom Chicago is obviously one of them).
I really look forward to seeing how they buy Marni's menswear for this Spring/Summer season, considering how much difficult it is to find Marni's menswear anywhere in this country except NYC and LA. Even though Marni's menswear has been much less interesting recently than two or three years ago, I am still very excited to see what we can find at Nordstrom. By the way, I also took a quick look at their women's salon section (is that the name?), well, it's actually not too bad. I saw some cute runway pieces from Burberry Prorsum and Peter Som. I guess they are also trying to do a similiar selction of high-end menswear like that, probably just in a smaller scale.
Hebden said:Sorry to be a naysayer but...the Marni was only brought in for the sale. I know because my SA called me to let me know it would be there. Several of the other designers were brought in at the same time. Who knows...they may decide to carry it regularly, definitely worth checking back.
haoshcn said:Oh, really?! I didn't see Marni over there myself, it's actually that SA told me that they would carry Marni for the coming Spring/Summer season. I asked him when they would got the new stock, and he had no idea at all, only gave me his name card and asked me to check back. Did you see any Marni for men over there last time? What do you think about them? I wonder where they actually got those on-sale designers stuff, maybe from the old stock of Jeffrey?
Anyway, I don't live in Chicago, so I can't check back regularly. But the next time when I go there, I'll definitely make sure I add Nordstrom onto my checking list of Barneys and Saks.
