If the nascent fashion powerhouse of Tokyo can be described as the Paris of the East, then the city of Sapporo on the northern island of Hokkaido is its Antwerp. Although prone to earthquakes and volcanic activity, that's the spot where designer Chinami Kamishima—herself a force of nature—began her directional, street-inspired line in 1998, and where she no doubt learned a thing or two about cold weather. Her zipper-laden fall collection is filled with down-covered jackets, fluffy coats, padded dresses and fur-trimmed tops, all hand-dyed and forward-friendly. This peek-a-boo hooded jumper ($110) will surely be another seismic hit at the first snap of winter. -LC

She has a great site, but I wish she would showcase her clothes more.
