^In both cases, these are updates of vintage bags. Perhaps Dior copied the YSL bags from recent seasons, but at the same time they could have reached into their archives for inspiration. Also it begs the question about the creative spark for the YSL bags and it is possible that the YSL bags were "inspired" by vintage Dior and perhaps Chanel. As previously stated where it may get muddy is that Yves St. Laurent worked for Dior for years and was the head designer after Dior's death and while I know that both the recent Dior and YSL bags channel vintage Dior (and Chanel), what I don't know is if the Dior bags in question were developed on Dior's watch or Yves St. Laurent's?
ETA:
Also as previously stated, when to comes to selling some products, innovation and creativity is NOT the name of the game. Personally I would not judge the overall creativity of a designer / design house by it handbag line.
