Christopher Kane S/S 2022 London | the Fashion Spot

Christopher Kane S/S 2022 London

The coats with metal insets are nice and all but the weird pleated dresses, the bad illustrations used as prints and shapeless organza numbers feel like the work of someone who had never designed a piece of clothing in his life. He's not that person and he should definitely try harder...

There´s a little bit of improvement here, compared to what he has done in the last years...but it is not enough compared to what he used to show ten years ago.

I hope he can get back right on track soon!

He used to be so good.

His inspirations were always baked into the clothes so amazingly. Now he just writes his inspiration on an oversized sweatshirt and calls it a day.

Christopher Kane Is a great commercial designer. We still remember how great his work for Versus was. We still love those clothes…
Maybe he should just go back to do good interesting, commercial clothes with a great cast and great music.

There are some nice propositions but too much mixed messages.

I wrote too much already. I’m going to forget about this as soon as I post my comment.

Yes. His collections now are plagued with a million messages...it's so scatterbrained and unfocused. I feel like his early collections were laser-focused. One solid, concise idea executed in an impactful way with - like you mentioned - a great cast and a great soundtrack.

Kane collections from the last 5 or so years all feel like one big mishmash. I couldn't distinguish one from the other and I couldn't be more tuned out, either.

I think he's one of those designers who are thriving when they have a limited budget. His downgrade began when his brand was bought by Kering. Now, when Kane bought it back, he's referencing his biggest hits, such as those organza "book" dresses or "the lovers" lace. Let's see, maybe he will be finally back on track because this collection is already a good sign. He just has to get rid of all the gimmicks and focus on one idea per season to avoid creating a mish-mash of weird concepts.

When was he bought by Kering, again?

I had to look back at his archive...Fall 2014 (the book pages collection) was his last good one.

He was bought by Kering in 2013, so s/s 2014 was the first collection designed after the acquisition.
