Foodie — Ciara Nugent

Ciara Nugent, 20, may be a successful model for labels such as Chanel, but she can’t resist mashed potatoes and Jaffa Cakes.

Favourite food?

Mashed potato from the Hôtel Costes in Paris — I ate there one night when I was in town for the shows. It was absolutely delicious — creamy, with chives and a hint of garlic.

Food you detest?

I have been a vegetarian since I was 10. My family is Irish and they really love steak and sausages, but I have never liked the taste of meat. My mother refused to let me be vegetarian, because she was worried about my iron levels, but we all stopped eating meat during the BSE scare. My mother didn’t last more than two weeks, but I have not eaten it since.

Most romantic dinner?

My ex-boyfriend, who works for ITN, took me to the fish restaurant J Sheekey on an early date. We had a huge shellfish platter and lots of champagne — definitely an aphrodisiac. I felt like taking him home and ripping off his clothes immediately.

Store-cupboard shame?

Jaffa Cakes. I am addicted to them — if I am going away on a job, I will take them with me. I go to New York quite a lot and you can only buy them in one shop there, so I have to take boxes and boxes over for all my English friends who are pining for them.
