Coach Early Spring 2006

i only like the classics. i've owned a couple of coach bags-a black hobo which i used FOREVER and was incredibly rough with, and it still looks great, and a beige leather tote that seemed to get dirty within a couple months of me using it.

Diorling, could i ask you a question, since you work there? i was told by a friend that i could have my Coach bag sent in to the company and cleaned/repaired, but when i called up, i was sort of given the runaround. i really do love the beige leather tote, and it makes me sad that i can't carry it anymore. Does Coach really clean/repair any of their bags, either for free or for a fee?

We used to clean the bags but we no longer do. I suggest leather cleaner and moisturizer (it does work!! I use it on all my Coach bags) to help get the stain out, but you can't use it on Pebbled leather or any of our Vintage or Retro leathers. We do repair but not like a tear in the leather, but like binding, stitching, zippers etc. It's a $20 S&H fee but the repair is free. We dont recommend any cleaners but I have heard from many customers that Arrow in Kansas City can clean Camel suede, so I would try them. I dont know any other details.

I've mistaken a few men SA's for women on the phone. I think it's cute

I heard that coach cleaners have silicone in them which isn't good for the leather, although I dont really know how true it is.

WOW. So wierd it just happens that there is some cleaner and moisturizer sitting by my computer...Go figure...

They both have silicone, I know that the moisturizer makes the leather soo supple, if you want you bags to get slouchy fast moisturize it.

Diorling, it seems like you take a bit of a beating in here about the new Coach bags. ;) I've been quite curious about the company's approach to the new designs. Are they trying to reach a completely different demographic? How have the bags been received by the existing customer base? Did they bring in new designers specifically for the trendy bags? What does the company expect the longevity of these bags to be? etc. etc. I'm sure you don't want to write an essay, and you probably can't share all this info anyway, but - well, I'd like to see the Harvard Business Review case study, I guess...

I don't really like the big flowers on the new bags for spring, but I'm in love with the the new Small Pocket Satchel-http://www.coach.com/aspx/content/product.aspx?product_no=7932&category_id=68

I can only answer a few since some information is sensitive, esp with Coach stockholders and since it is in the blackout period. Im a Coach stockholder aswell...

No, we are expanding our demographic. The Hamptons, Chelsea, Soho and Legacy collections (and etcetera) are popular with many people, actually people of all ages wear our collections but thier personalities are different. We have a design team led by a very handsome gentlemen whose name I dont know. We change collections montly, so every month a collection leaves and a new one replaces it.

this thread is awesome! thanks for taking the time to answer everyones questions diorling! it makes it way more interesting! is coach still manufacturing their leather over in italy by the same family that does dooney and bourkes?? i went over there about a year and half ago or so with the head of dooney and bourke but he found out the company that was doing his leather was also doing coachs orders and he got a lil pissed about it. its really amazing to see how they hand do each hide. but the smells were almost too much to take.

Ya but Dooney's leather is some hot sh*t versus Coach's. Dooney's smells like fish while ours smells lovely, and thier's is VERY stiff. Sorry. I HATE Dooney and Bourke...HATE...Don't get me started

Also it's brand image...

Of course our official stance on Dooney and LV are no comment although I could give most customers an earful.

hahaha!!!! so true!!!!!!!!!!! yah, i dont care for them at all either! but i did a job stint with them and got a bunch of free bags which i resold right away online and bought things i'd actually carry. the only one i kept was a gift alongside a art commision i did for them, and a personal request, which was a nile satchel......after much use, the leather has softened up a bit, but indeed, it doesn't compare to coach AT ALL. i had a hamptons tote and it was WONDERFUL for college to carry all of my books in. well made, nice leather and definately quality.....but i prefer their all leather to the logo stuff with the exception of their vintage collection they did a few seasons back.

I love the new blueish signatures (esp. the stripe!).

This may be a little off-topic, but is the SE Kimono wristlet really, truly gone? ): I wanted it so badly and I didn't know it was SE so I didn't act ..

LOL! I'm with you on that one.

Diorling, thanks for sharing as much as you're able to - it's always interesting to read your perspective on the bags. Sounds like you'd be an interesting person to take out for a drink sometime...;)

Are you talking about the gold optic one w/ the dragon and mink?

Have you tried department stores? I know for sure Macy*s Union Square in SF, CA had it. It's a gorgeous wristlet, I fell in love with it when I saw it but it's not practical for me. Great taste!

Really?!?! :woot: I've never seen it in person before. I'd asked at least three Coach stores if they had it, but they all told me no .. When'd you see it there? I know all the Macy's in San Jose don't have it.
