Predictable... NYFW has ceased long ago to represent the very best of American fashion.
These days, it’s expected that there’s going to be these token, affirmative action, representation of people who wish to design and people who wish to model-- with neither possessing the talent to do so; and fashion is just an afterthought next to virtue-signalling. Because this sort of effort is on the level of some alternative middle school cosplaying a fashion show in the park; where I can just hear the squeals of excitement when the teacher/“designer" finding the Black/trans/non-binary/paraplegic individual to send down the runway as their statement. There’s not a whiff of fashion here of a show that is a likely a product of a grant, because let’s be real: Not even the SM likes/followers that encourage this nonsense would wear any of this, let alone pay for it.
The days of 90s NYFW when Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Helmut Lang, Narciso Rodriguez, Victor Alfaro, Marc Jacobs, Richard Tyler were the standards and anything less just wouldn’t do, are even more inspiring than ever before in 2023.
